Job Description - Technical Writer

Job Title: Technical Writer 



Location: Remote - from US



The Technical Writer applies knowledge, skill, and experience to make technical documentation meaningful and accessible to all stakeholders and end users. Typical daily work includes collaborating with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions. This role incorporates photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding. Standardizing content across platforms and media as well as gathering usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers is also a critical function of this role. If successful in the role, this person may be engaged to work on other various projects determined on team needs.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

•    Write, edit and proof hardcopy and online documents for consistency.

•    Examples: reference documents for hardware and software products, code, user interface tests, white papers, Application Program Interface and Command Line Interface Documentation, online help systems.

•    Ensure all deliverables are technically and mechanically accurate.

•    Collaborate with department team members, engineering, marketing, services, legal, regulatory and others to develop content for standard documentation sets, software and special initiatives in-line with the development cycle.

•    Create and manage document schedules, content management, and information architecture.

•    Define processes for content modification, content globalization, content sensitivity, content accessibility / disability.

•    Maintain content, tools, application access, account administration, and workflow administration.

•    More experienced writers may train outside business groups as needed on tools, applications, reporting, and content workflow needs.

•    Define, ratify, document and monitor documentation management processes and procedures to comply with ISO and internal quality standards.

•    Write, edit structure and develop new modules for Software / Hardware that has advanced level of complex features or components.

•    Own the delivery for a product.

•    Recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.

•    Produce products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

•    Moderate level of complex work without daily direction by management.

•    Perform other duties as assigned

•    A combination of education and experience necessary to show diverse work samples that indicate the applicant understands communications and content strategy deeply enough to recommend how to achieve business goals for successful user experiences. Deliverables can vary and include, but are not limited to, project and content plans, task/gap analyses, content audits, content models, KPI/metrics criteria definition, SEO mapping and alignment, localization and translation, content mapping and outlines, customer research, narrative design and storytelling, client workshops and presentations, and support for prototype development and usability testing.

•    Experience collaborating in a digital product model: We discover, define, concept, design, develop, deliver, and iterate products that end users find relevant and actionable.

•    A solutions-oriented approach to sharing subject matter expertise, knowledge, research results, and best practices across teams and channels in real-world circumstances of both ambiguity and technological or creative constraints.

•    Strongly prefer experience with documenting APIs, the principles of design thinking, agile, and/or lean, and working across functions in a global, matrixed organization.

•    History of conducting, or partnering with third parties to conduct, qualitative and quantitative research and analyzing results to guide continuous improvements in digital user experiences and products.

•    Good organization – Need to own digital labs that includes training details, leadership videos, etc.

•    Will need to maintain confidential and sensitive information

•    Ability to manage multiple projects that are relatively complex in scope.

•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

•    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

•    Experience with NetSuite strongly preferred

•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with expert-level Excel skills

•    Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers, 10-key calculator, and copier

•    Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment

•    Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers
