Therapeutic Medical Physicist

Overview

Cetechs is a Service-Disabled Veteran owned company is hiring for a Therapeutic Medical Physicist to provide support to the VA Medical Center, Department of Radiation Oncology, East Orange, NJ.

Responsibilities

• Shall be available, when necessary, for consultation with the Radiation Oncologist and to provide advice or direction to technical staff when radiation treatments are being planned or when patients are being treated. Where possible, should be present to observe and/or help supervise complicated simulations and/or treatment set-ups. Contractor’s Medical Physicist must be present at the machine during patient setup for SBRT/SRS and IGRT.
• Shall specify and monitor method(s) to calculate MUs or treatment times and ensure independent review(s) of such calculations. Any individual having appropriate training and experience as defined in this PWS may perform the initial calculation(s). Independent review of said calculation(s) shall be performed within a specified time period.
• Shall develop and maintain a method for the weekly and systematic review of the charts of all patients under radiation treatment. All methods shall be approved by the VA Chief of Staff or designee. Contractor’s Medical Physicist shall perform a final chart review at the end of the course of radiation treatment in order to confirm that the prescribed dose has been delivered, and to document the total doses delivered to critical structures. All charts are subject to quality reviews by the facility’s Chief of staff or designee.
• Responsible for data input into the planning system, which should be based upon measured beam data for the radiation beams in question, and for output from the planning system(s).
• Responsible for understanding the calculation algorithm and should document those conditions for which the algorithm and measured data are in disagreement by more than 5%. The output of the planning system should be periodically tested by comparisons to direct measurements of the radiation beams. Contractor’s Medical Physicists shall ensure that all users of the treatment planning system receive appropriate training.
• Shall provide advice and consultation, to VA and third-party clinical engineers, for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the VA RADIATION ONCOLOGY’s linear accelerators and CT simulation equipment, all of their relevant accessories and the computerized network interconnectivity; record and verification systems.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Medical Physics or related field
• Board Certification in Medical Physics- MS level. Can either be master or PhD with at least two years of continuous working experience within the last three years to ensure TMP’s experience is current and relevant. Junior TMP must also have Page 13 of 153 the following minimum years of experience, expertise, and knowledge on the following procedures, equipment and software
• Minimum 2 years experience Documentation detailing experience in performing QA procedures.
• Minimum 1 year of experience Documentation detailing Therapeutic Medical Physics in a healthcare system that is ACR/APEx certified.
• Experience in :
• Varian Linear Accelerators (TrueBeam with Brain Lab Accessories)
• Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) including Cone Beam CT
• Eclipse treatment planning system and ARIA record & verify system
• Treatment modalities including 2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT
• IMRT QA systems (e.g., MapCheck)
• CT Simulators
• Superficial X-ray machines
• Experience in a healthcare system with ACR or APEx certification preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Proficiency in computer systems and networking related to radiation oncology
• Ability to pass a government background check and complete required VA training

All candidates must be able to:

• Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
• Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
• Lift up to 20 lbs
• Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
• Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
