Tot Instructor
The Tot Instructor reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor and is responsible for creating a positive environment within the classroom that will stimulate a child’s intellectual, physical and emotional growth and health. The tot instructor will teach classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays primarily in the mornings with the possibility of additional classes being offered. The instructor is also responsible for creating productive and imaginative lesson plans to be implemented in the classroom. The instructor must serve as a team member and work in cooperation with other instructors and all other personnel of the Oak Lawn Park District. The instructor must have good verbal skills, good organization skills and good supervisory skills. The instructor serves as a nurturing and positive role model for children.

ABOUT US:
The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates or Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred. High School diploma required with minimum of four years experience working with children.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide excellent customer service to families.
• Prepare the lessons and activities prior to class start time for specialty tot classes for children to explore and express their creativity.
• Clean up classroom daily.
• End of the year clean-up and inventory, which includes packing supplies and equipment and storing items.
• General upkeep of classrooms and equipment which includes light cleaning and identifying and reporting any repairs that need to be made.
• Keep open lines of communication with parents.
• Supervise children at all times. Intervening and taking immediate action whenever children are in physical danger or whenever others are physically or emotionally harming a child.
• Attend to children’s physical needs and reporting bodily injury and accidents on the PDRMA incident reports.
• Assist in completing other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
• Maintain inventory of necessary classroom supplies, including first aid supplies and administrative forms. Replenish as necessary.
• Keep accurate records of personal participant forms.
• Responsible for coordinating the purchase of miscellaneous classroom supplies with the Recreation Supervisor.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
• Attend all Park District mandatory training sessions and meetings.
• Must become CPR and 1st Aid certified.
• Must have own transportation to work.

• Worker performs all activities indoors. Indoor environmental conditions will include lighting and temperature.
• Worker may be exposed to CRT rays while working at computer.
• Worker may be involved in repetitive work (i.e.: computer keyboarding, writing).

• Employee must have the ability to follow and give directions.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Employee must possess time management and organization skills to effectively perform his/her job.
• Employee must possess computer skills including proficiency in basic word processing and email skills.

• Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of this position.
• Employee must have a good sense of empathy, nurturing, patience, and fairness and be able to handle a multitude of situations as they come up, while keeping a positive and friendly attitude.
