Job Purpose:

Marquette Mountain Resort’s Trail Crew builds new and maintains existing downhill mountain bike trails within our

downhill mountain bike park. This position is designed for spring, summer, and fall operations (8 months). To

continue employment year round, the candidate must be willing to work in a winter operations department (4

months).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Honoring Commitments:

  • Maintain portions of our skiing terrain and glade skiing areas.
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather, on rugged terrain, often far from amenities, demonstrating reliability and dedication.

Creating Positive Experiences:

  •  Build new and maintain existing downhill mountain bike trails within our downhill mountain bike park.
  •  Contribute to the recreation and enjoyment of the community by ensuring trails and skiing areas are well-maintained and enjoyable for guests.

Fostering Lifelong Learning:

  •  Develop a greater connection to the mountain through hands-on work and continuous learning about trail maintenance and mountain operations.
  •  Adapt and learn new skills required for both spring, summer, and fall operations as well as potential winter operations.

Exhibiting Pioneering Spirit:

  • Engage in the rewarding, often physical position that involves creativity and problem-solving to maintain and enhance the mountain’s trails and skiing areas.
  • Embrace the physical challenges and diverse weather conditions as part of the innovative spirit of the role.
  • Regularly required to hike uphill and downhill carrying tools and equipment

Demonstrating Good Stewardship:

  •  Maintain the natural beauty and integrity of the mountain by carefully managing and maintaining the trails and skiing areas.
  •  Mow and maintain skiing terrain to ensure the sustainability and safety of the environment for all users.
  •  Responsible for assisting with the upkeep of maintenance logs for the mountain bike trails

Other Duties as Assigned:

  •  Adapt to the evolving needs of the organization and undertake additional responsibilities as required, reflecting our commitment to flexibility and responsiveness in meeting business objectives.

Qualifications:

  •  High School Diploma and 18 years of age
  •  Avid mountain biker with the ability to ride our existing rugged, technical terrain strongly preferred.
  •  Ability to work manual labor in all weather conditions
  •  Ability to safely and consistently lift 50 pounds.
  •  Experience in the mountain bike ski area industry or outdoor recreation industry is preferred.
  •  Experience in trail building and mini excavator operation preferred.
  •  Experience with basic carpentry and structural integrity preferred.
  •  Experience operating a chainsaw is preferred..
  •  Understanding of the use and maintenance of hand tools and small engines.
  •  Ability to receive and act upon feedback or input.
  •  Holding or pursuing a degree in outdoor recreation, ski area management or related field preferred.
  •  Valid Driver’s License

  •  The employee is frequently required to sit and stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  •  Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  •  Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
