Job Description - Trombone Instructor


Job Title:             Instrumental Music Instructor – Individual & Group Trombone (Part Time)
Department:      Music & Dance School
Reports to:         Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion Chair
Schedule:           
Salary:                  Individual Lessons - $49.00 hourly, Group - $51.00 hourly, Meetings and Professional Development - $32.00 hourly


POSITION OVERVIEW
Third Street Music School seeks a part-time music instructor to teach weekly individual trombone lessons and beginner group trombone classes weekdays.  The applicant should provide effective and engaging instruction to students from beginning to advance levels, and ages 8 to adults and older adults.
Exhibiting a unique combination of skill, experience, and empathy, faculty at Third Street seek to create a positive, welcoming, nurturing and collegial environment. The ideal candidate is a dedicated music educator and an exceptional brass musician who truly enjoys working with young and old students in a community music school environment.  Classes take place weekly throughout the 32-week school year.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Provide effective and sequential music instruction to individual students and beginning group classes
  • Establish a good rapport with families and provide constructive feedback and annual goals for each student
  • Advise and support students and family in other Third Street Music program-related activities
  • Prepare students for performance opportunities within the Third Street music community and external opportunities
  • Attend all studio performances and recitals and participate in department meetings and professional development
  • Engage in the overall work and mission of Third Street and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Collaborate with Third Street registrar in scheduling and communication of lessons and classes. 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A degree or certification in music, music education, or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 years minimum of teaching applied lessons and classes in a private studio, community music school, or public-school setting. Experience teaching small beginning groups preferred.
  • Able to consistently work in-person Monday afternoons and early evenings; Additional teaching opportunities may become available based on scheduling.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in arts education
  • Strong communication skills and effective personal skills for working with young and adult students and families
