Job Description - Violence Intervention Counselor (Part Time)

Description

 

Position Description 

The Violence Intervention Counselor provides short-term counseling and group support services to individuals impacted by violence. This position works closely with the case management team to support clients in stabilizing after traumatic experiences. 

The counselor will provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive services and assist clients in connecting to long-term mental health care within the agency or through appropriate referrals when needed or desired. Services may include individual counseling, group facilitation, and referrals to community resources. 

Essential Functions 

  • Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive short-term (8-week) counseling to individuals impacted by community violence. 
  • Provide counseling services to clients referred following community violence incidents. Referrals are incident-based and may vary in volume depending on community needs; however, clinicians are expected to see approximately 10 individual client sessions per week. 
  • Facilitate one support group per week, focused on trauma recovery, coping skills, and community healing. 
  • Collaborate closely with the case management team to coordinate services and support client needs. 
  • Develop brief, strength-based service plans in collaboration with the clinical supervisor and clients. 
  • Provide referrals and assist clients in connecting to longer-term behavioral health care or supportive services when needed. 
  • Respond to referrals and outreach requests in a timely and responsive manner, particularly following incidents of community violence. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations. 
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards. 
  • Support clients in accessing community resources that promote safety, healing, and stability. 
  • Participate in weekly supervision, staff meetings, and interdisciplinary team coordination to support client care and program effectiveness. 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Participate in regular supervision, case consultation, and team meetings. 
  • Work collaboratively with case managers and community partners. 
  • Participate in outreach and community engagement activities when appropriate. 
  • Maintain current Washington State Department of Health credential. 
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities related to trauma-informed care, violence intervention, and culturally responsive services. 
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and program requirements. 

Requirements

 

 

Qualifications 

  • Demonstrates commitment to equity, social justice, and community healing. 
  • Experience working with individuals or communities impacted by trauma, violence, or crisis preferred. 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultures. 
  • BA or higher in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field. 
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and community-based services preferred. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet deadlines. 
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn electronic health record systems. 
  • Must pass a Washington State Patrol Criminal Background Check. 
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and reliable transportation. 
  • Clear driving record with no more than two moving violations in the past three years.
