Job Description - Visitor Services Associate

Description

Job: Part-Time, Hourly, Weekend, Holidays, and Events 

Supervisor: Manager of Visitor Services 

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week 

Union Minimum Rate: $15.19/hr  

Position Summary: 

Visitor Services Associates are part of the “front line” team at the Milwaukee Art Museum and report to the VS Supervisory Team. Visitor Services Associates will promote an environment of exceptional service, providing our visitors with positive first and last impressions of their experience at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Associates will be cross trained to include diverse experiences in all areas of our department including membership sales, admissions and ticketing. Associates are conversant in the benefits of membership, current programming, and our facilities. 

  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Proactively greet and welcome visitors to the Museum
  • Maintain a courteous and helpful attitude; project positive body language and approachability.
  • Provide superb customer service and excellence
  • Provide information requested by visitors or assist visitors with sources of information.
  • Provide direction and wayfinding assistance.
  • Promote and sell Museum membership, admission tickets, and other museum enhancements.[AA1] 
  • Quickly and efficiently process transactions at our admissions desks.
  • Engage the use of technology provided to assist in fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Participate in ongoing training activities; similarly, be self-motivated towards maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the Milwaukee Art Museum and its programs and activities.
  • Provide interdepartmental assistance in collecting information about visitors and their experience with the Museum.
  • Communicate Museum policies and procedures in a positive manner.
  • Alert Security personnel about medical emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; a natural affinity for working with and engaging people.
  • Experience working both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, or sales is required.
  • Track record of commitment and reliability.
  • Ability to actively listen to visitors, quickly problem solve, and be responsive to needs.
  • Exceptional ability to sustain enthusiastic and positive interactions with visitors and staff for the length of shift.

Temperament:

Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, self-starter and work well under pressure. Manages time efficiently, analyzes and solves problems, independently and if necessary, collaboratively. Ability to be flexible and embrace changes within this position due to departmental priorities. Ability to work with many people to achieve the Museum's goals. 

Physical requirements:

  • Sit at a desk
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Use hands to handle or touch
  • Vision abilities required by the job include close vision
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Work Museum open hours, including nights, weekends, events, and holidays
