Job Description - Watercraft Inspector - Kanabec County - Work at the lake!





The Watercraft Inspector position serves to inform and educate the public to the threats of ecologically harmful aquatic invasive species to Minnesota’s waters. Inspectors will also undergo training of MN DNR protocols and perform thorough inspections on all incoming or outgoing watercraft at multiple lakes throughout Kanabec County. Inspectors will work at public water access sites educating the public by providing information to watercraft users and conducting a brief survey while inspecting watercraft for invasive species. Other duties include assisting with postings and educational materials at access sites, invasive species removal, and other natural resource projects.


Part Time Positions Only: Mid-May through September


Locations:


Knife Lake (NE) Public access: 6 hour shifts, 8am-2pm (Sat/Sun & Holidays)


Knife Lake (S) Access:4 hour shifts 12:00pm - 4 pm(Sat/Sun & Holidays)


Ann Lake Water Access Site: 4 hour shift 8am-12pm (Sat/Sun & Holidays)


Fish Lake (S) Access Site:4 hour shift 12pm-4pm (Sat/Sun & Holidays)


Fish Lake (N) Access Site 4 hour shift 8am-12pm (Sat/Sun & Holidays)


Lewis, Quamba, Eleven and Pomroy (limited shifts)


Compensation: $15.50-$19.50 Hourly Base (DOQ) + Monthly Performance Bonus

Duties:



  • Educate the public on the AIS program and current issues.

  • Distribute literature/pamphlets.

  • Inspection of watercraft for invasive species (inbound and outbound).

  • Conduct verbal surveys.

  • Documentation of inspection activities.

  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices while inspecting watercraft


Qualifications:



  • Verbal communication and customer relations experience.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a professional setting.

  • Willingness to work outdoors and in the various Minnesota weather conditions.

  • Willing to work weekends and holidays. Shifts will be primarily on Saturday's and Sunday's within your availability. Typical shifts are scheduled for 8 hours, or split between two launches on the same lake for 4 hours each.

  • Roaming Watercraft Inspector will drive to and work on approximately eight boat launches within Kanabec County.

  • Requires walking, standing, and moving about the boat launch area to a significant degree depending on traffic.
