The Summit and Berkeley Heights YMCA, branches of the Summit Area YMCA (SAY), are seeking a welcoming wellness center staff member to help take our fitness programs to the next level. The Wellness Center Staff assist members in the safe and proper usage of equipment in the wellness center and weight room while providing a positive customer service experience. They also maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for members.

• Have the ability to work at both Berkeley Heights YMCA and Summit YMCA branches

Salary & Benefits:

This position is part time with an opportunity to work up to 25 hours each week. Current needed shifts are 10:30am-3:15pm, 2:15pm-7:15pm, 3:00pm-7:00pm, and 6:00pm-9:45pm, but other various shifts are also available. Wages are competitive, starting $17.00/hour, but are based on experience. Benefit of employment at the Y incudes a free YMCA membership and discounts on family membership.

Essential Functions:

• Assist members with proper and safe usage of equipment in the fitness center, strive room and weight room.
• Conduct new member orientations.
• Correctly demonstrate exercises on all equipment and be able to answer members’ questions regarding usage of the equipment.
• Monitor members for correct usage of all equipment and offer options if applicable.
• Maintains cleanliness and neatness of the fitness center, strive room, weight room and stretching room.
• Maintains a safe environment by periodically clearing the floor of weights, magazines, litter, etc.
• Cleans equipment on each shift
• Rotates through the fitness center, strive room, weight room and stretching room.
• Provides positive customer service to all members. Be friendly, helpful, visible, and available to all members.
• Reports all maintenance concerns or problems to Supervisor.
• Enforces all wellness center rules.
• Ensures adequate cleaning supplies for member use.
• Provide effective cause driven tours to prospective members.
• Follow all YMCA policies and procedures as designated by supervisor and employee handbook.
• Represents the Y in a professional manner which includes personal appearance and attitude.
• Wears proper attire including staff shirt, nametag, fitness pants and sneakers.
• As an Ambassador for the Y, promote our commitment to Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
• As an Ambassador for the Y, communicates to members, volunteers, and the general public that diversity and inclusion are core to the Summit Area YMCA mission. Requirements

Qualifications:

• Ability to properly use of all equipment in the fitness center and weight room.
• Good communications and customer service skills.
• Can properly use and demonstrate the wellness center equipment.
• Valid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, or ability to obtain within 3 months.
