ORGANIZATION: Friends of Switchpoint is a non-profit organization that has been serving those individuals, families and veterans experiencing poverty and homelessness since 2014.

Job Summary: Worm farming requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual to manage the care, breeding, and productivity of composting worms. The Worm Farmer plays a key role in sustainable waste management and soil enrichment by maintaining healthy worm colonies and processing organic material into nutrient-rich castings. 

Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain worm bins or beds, ensuring optimal temperature, moisture, and pH levels 
• Feed worms waste, avoiding harmful materials 
• Monitor worm health, reproduction rates, and population density 
• Harvest and package worm castings for sale or use 
• Breed and separate worms for resale 
• Clean and repair equipment, bins, and farming areas 
• Track data on worm production and compost output 
• Educate others about the benefits of vermicompost 

Qualifications:

• Experience in agriculture, composting, or animal care preferred (not required) 
• Strong attention to detail and observation skills 
• Ability to work independently and in outdoor/greenhouse environments 
• Physical ability to lift, bend, and handle soil and organic matter 
• Passion for sustainability, soil health, and eco-friendly farming practices 

Preferred Skills:

Sales or customer service experience  

Knowledge of soil science or organic gardening 

Experience with micro-enterprise or nonprofit sustainability models

Compensation
