Yoga Instructor (Part Time)

The Summit Area YMCA (SAY), is seeking experienced Yoga Instructor to teach classes to our members and help take our fitness programs to the next level. The Instructor leads group fitness classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

This position is part time with an opportunity to teach multiple classes per week. We are currently look for instructors to teach weekly classes at both the Summit YMCA and Berkeley Heights YMCA branches, weekday mornings between 6am - 12pm. Wages are competitive, starting $28/hour, but are based on experience. Benefit of employment at the Y incudes a free YMCA membership and discounts on family membership.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare and execute a safe and appropriate class.
• Prior to the start of a class, introduce yourself and remind all participants that if leaving the class early for any reason they must give you a thumbs up as a signal to let you know they are okay.
• Lead members through an effective warm up & cool down.
• Provide proper cueing and coaching to class participants.
• Provide modifications to participants when applicable.
• Use appropriate music throughout class.
• Be able to apply biomechanics and physiology of movements to members.
• Start and end class on time.
• Communicate in advance of any planned absences to your supervisor.
• Report any maintenance concerns or problems to supervisor.
• Follow all YMCA fitness and Association policies and procedures as designated by your supervisor and the Employee Handbook.
• Attend all required staff meetings and training as necessary and assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 200 hour certification
• At least one year experience leading a weekly class
• Be knowledgeable and able to teach Vinyasa, Hatha, and/or Hot Yoga
• Ability to work independently to keep a schedule, start/end class on time, commit to assigned classes, cover for other instructors, maintain accurate timecard, and attend staff meetings
• Can safely lead a class of up to 30 participants
• The ability to connect with the Y community is essential. You will not only be an instructor. You will also be a member.
• Certifications in and experience with guided meditation a plus.
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Good communication skills
• Be knowledgeable about health & fitness field including current trends and safety issues.
