Job Description - Youth & Family Programs Assistant 2

Description

Job: part-time, grant-funded, union

Hours: Variable. Weekend and Thursday evening availability required. Regular weekly availability required. 

Pay: $15.16 per hour

Supervisor: Director of Youth & Family Programs
 

General Purpose: Assist with Youth and Family programs and activities. Welcome and engage a multi-generational youth and family audience in creativity-engaging experiences that register deeply, and build lasting, positive impressions that connect with the Museum’s special exhibitions and Collection. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Welcome visitors to the Museum, and assist them with wayfinding, information, and educational offerings.
  • Distribute and maintain ArtPack Station activities. Keep ArtPack activities, touch tours, and the Station itself organized, clean, and stocked with needed supplies. Keep accurate distribution records and daily report sheets, and record visitor feedback.
  • In the Kohl’s Art Studio, assist the lead teacher with needed preparation, welcome families, help them create hands-on art projects, prep and restock supplies, clean. Assist with setting up the space, including setting up materials, equipment such as easels, tents, and tables. Keep accurate daily report sheets.
  • Assist with preparation, set-up, and working art activity and other stations at Kohl’s Family Sundays events.
  • Inform appropriate staff person of any malfunctioning, missing, or broken equipment, low supplies, or visitor concern. 
  • Take part in youth and family training and meetings as assigned.
  • Implement and/or assist with special projects and other programs as assigned, including working youth and family programs in the community.
  • As assigned, function as Lead for the Day: note staff attendance, communicate projects and details to working staff, communicate any issues or changes to designated MAM point of contact/s, record visitor attendance, write summary and take photos.

  • Work with variety of art and craft materials and tools
  • Speak on the telephone
  • Navigate building and campus
  • Move about Navigate building and campus
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl upon occasion
  • Constantly positions self to assist visitors and maintain art environment.

Temperament:
Excellent interpersonal skills, systematic, meticulous, patient, self-starter and works well under pressure. Manages time efficiently, analyze and solve problems independently and if necessary, collaboratively. Ability to be flexible and embrace changes within this position due to departmental priorities. Ability to work with a wide variety of people to achieve the goals of the Museum.
