Job Description - Youth Development Professional


Employment Type: Part-Time

Location: Sto-Rox

Hours: 1:30pm -5:30pm, Additional hours may be available. 

Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Compensation: starting rate of $17/hour

Job Summary

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) serves as a direct-service leader in creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that promotes the holistic development of all youth. YDPs implement daily programming with intentionality and enthusiasm, fostering relationships that support each child’s academic, social-emotional, and physical growth. Through activities such as STEAM, literacy, athletics, mentoring, and arts & culture, YDPs create opportunities for exploration, creativity, and connection. Youth Development Professionals work within a team-based structure, operating with the support of Youth Development Assistants and fellow YDPs, while also receiving ongoing mentorship and coaching from Youth Development Managers. Youth Development Professionals receive ongoing guidance from Youth Development Managers and report to the Site Director.

Youth Development Professionals at BGCWPA operate in alignment with PA DHS Chapter 3270 regulations and are considered equivalent in qualifications to “Assistant Group Supervisors” in a licensed childcare setting. YDPs support the success of the clubhouse by ensuring high-quality supervision, modeling positive behavior, and contributing to a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

Qualifications

A Youth Development Professional shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:

  • High school diploma or GED and 2,500 hours of experience working with youth (babysitting counts—excluding family)
  • Strong interest in youth development
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and adaptable
  • Comfortable using or learning Google Suite

 What You’ll Do

  • Plan and lead programs in arts, STEM, sports, and mentoring
  • Build positive relationships with youth and families
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment
  • Support day-to-day Club operations
  •  Promote and stimulate membership in the Clubhouse through programs, services, and outreach activities.
  • Work in conjunction with volunteers, tutors, and students to participate in an ongoing education improvement program
  • Offer input regarding department programs, in partnership with the approval of the Program Manager.
  • Flexibility to support other age groups including preschool
  • Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors.

Onboarding process -

  • Must complete a health physical and TB test
  • Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter
  •  Employment is contingent upon being able to successfully pass a background check.
