Position Summary: The Youth Engagement Service Member plays a pivotal role in bridging the DC community with our mentoring and enrichment programs serving middle and high school youth. The primary focus of this role is recruiting, enrolling, and supporting youth and families in accessing Kid Power's mentoring and enrichment programs. Key responsibilities include representing Kid Power during recruitment at DC middle and high schools, fostering strong connections and partnerships within those, and supporting in-school youth workshops.
Who is the ideal candidate?
Our ideal candidate is someone who loves face-to-face interactions with youth, can engage with youth to convince them to join a program, and has a genuine passion for mentoring/education. This is a 20 hour/week in-person position. Members must be available for service Tuesdays and Wednesdays between the hours of 11am and 4pm. Remaining hours are flexible to accommodate your schedule and allow for a variety of recruitment activities within school hours.

Founded in 2002, Kid Power is a community-rooted nonprofit that empowers over 1,000 youth annually across Washington, DC, and Montgomery County. With an annual budget of $2.2 million, our evidence-based programs focus on academic confidence, social-emotional wellness, and civic leadership. We value collaboration, community-building, and youth voice in everything we do.
All service hours, including phone outreach, email communication, planning, and service documentation, must be completed in person at Kid Power’s office or in the community where service occurs.
This AmeriCorps service term runs from September 8, 2026 through August 31, 2027. Position availability and start date are contingent upon funding.
