Job Description - Youth Mental Health Manager


ABOUT US:
Flatbush Development Corporation is a dynamic and community-focused organization dedicated to providing high-quality afterschool programs for youth in Brooklyn. Our commitment to youth development and enrichment is at the core of everything we do, and we are proud to be a partner of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Department of Health (DOH) and The Office of Children Services (OCFS).

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE: 
  • Supervisor: Director of Youth Services 
  • Max Hours: 25 per week
  • Days: 5 per week, Monday – Friday 
  • Compensation: $40- $45 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth Mental Health Manager plays a central role in Flatbush Development Corporation’s commitment to supporting the mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL) of young people. This position is responsible for the integration, coordination, and oversight of SEL and mental health initiatives across elementary and middle school programs. The manager supervises a team of MSW interns, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures the delivery of high-quality mental health services aligned with best practices and OCFS/DYCD standards.

PROGRAM STRATEGY AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for integrating SEL and mental health supports across all programs.
  • Design strategies aligned with program objectives to enhance the mental and emotional well-being of participants.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors and social work interns to launch, monitor, and assess multi-tiered SEL and mental health programs.
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with evidence-based practices in program design and execution.
TEAM SUPERVISION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
  • Supervise and mentor MSW interns, supporting their professional development and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Facilitate guidance, coaching, and feedback to build the skills and confidence of staff in mental health and SEL interventions.
  • Develop training materials and manuals to equip staff with practical tools for supporting participants’ social-emotional growth.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions to strengthen staff capacity in mental health practices and crisis response.
DATA MANAGEMENT AND EVALUATION
  • Implement data collection systems to evaluate the effectiveness of SEL and mental health initiatives.
  • Analyze program data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and evidence-based strategies.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks to measure impact and refine programmatic approaches based on outcomes.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT
  • Design and oversee response procedures for mental health crises, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely and effective interventions.
  • Train staff on crisis mitigation strategies and provide guidance during critical incidents.
REPORTING AND COMMUNICATION
  • Prepare regular reports for senior leadership, highlighting program achievements, challenges, and strategic direction.
  • Advocate for the importance of SEL and mental health programs, emphasizing their role in positively shaping youth outcomes.
INCLUSION COORDINATOR
  • Liaison with family, school administration and DYCD to support Individualized Accommodation Plans (IAPs), Behavioral Support Plans, and related services, ensuring equitable access and support for students with disabilities and English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Identify participant’s needs and submit requests for resources to DYCD to ensure needs are being met timely (i.e. transportation, para, school nurse, etc.)
  • In addition, this role manages participants’ Individualized Accommodation Plans (IAPs), Behavioral Support Plans, and related services, ensuring equitable access and support for students with disabilities and English Language Learners (ELLs).
DATA MANAGEMENT AND EVALUATION

QUALIFICATION:
Educational & Professional Credentials: 
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. 
  • Valid and active Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) Certification. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in youth mental health and SEL initiatives, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity. 
Knowledge & Skills: 
  • Strong understanding of youth mental health challenges and the intricacies of social-emotional learning. 
  • Expertise in multi-tiered SEL and mental health program development, execution, and assessment. 
  • Knowledge of effective mental health crisis management techniques and protocols. 
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection, analysis, and program evaluation.
