Senior Data Journalist

Tech in Asia Indonesia is hiring an experienced data journalist in Jakarta to provide smart coverage about Indonesia's startup and tech industry for its Indonesia site in Bahasa Indonesia.

Mandatory requirement: please attach 2-3 data journalism pieces that you wrote in the past along with your application for our consideration.

Responsibilities

• You'll create a compelling contents based on data analysis, design the content in an easy-to-understand manner, and develop new types of content based on data.
• You'll research, write, and break news, investigate leads, conduct interviews, and grow your network of industry contacts.
• You'll assist the news team by providing additional reporting.

Requirements

• You have proven records as a data journalist, with extensive experience at least 4 years in the related field.
• You're a speed demon who can write clean, punchy, and entertaining prose with minimal edits from an editor.
• You have extensive knowledge in tech and startup scene within the region, especially Indonesia.
• You can convert industry jargon into easy-to-read news pieces within an hour.
• You can write analytical pieces that add context to the news in under a day.
• You understand what readers want.
• You value being first to the news and chasing down scoops no one else has.
• You value accuracy.
• You value journalistic integrity.
• You can read, converse, and write in both English and Bahasa.
• You possess traits that are described in Tech in Asia's culture code .
• You're based in Jakarta, or willing to relocate there.

• You understand not just textual, but also visual content (graphics and video), and are able to help craft those types of content.
• You already possess deep knowledge of the industry, as well as a deep rolodex of industry contacts.
