Senior Software Engineer

Tech in Asia (YC W15) is the largest English language technology media focusing on Asia. We cover tech trends, startups, and big tech titans in the region. We aim to build and serve Asia's tech and startup community.

In this role, you will work with the rest of the engineering team to build and maintain web and data solutions for our subscription business ( media , jobs platform , live sessions , and future new product verticals).

As a senior Backend, you will be responsible for:

• Designing, implementing and maintaining new and old product features for TIA in PHP and NodeJS/Express frameworks.
• Optimize components and applications for maximum performance, speed and scalability
• Architecting efficient and scalable backend systems
• Write clean, testable code with unit tests and end to end testing
• Continuously do research of new web technologies to improve performance and enhance interface design and user experience.

Job description & requirements:  

• Proficient in written and spoken English, all communications will be in English.
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing, deploying, and running applications in production.
• Experience with PHP and NodeJS/Express backend development is a must.
• Ability to pick up new frameworks and technologies.
• Proficient knowledge in RDBMS like MySQL, and PostgreSQL and object caches such as Memcached and Redis, NoSQL MongoDB.
• Good foundation of OOP and software design principles.
• Can-do attitude and flexibility in a fast-moving environment.
• Being passionate and comfortable with a fun-loving culture.
• Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript (JQuery), and CSS.
• Experience with WordPress plugin development and Laravel framework is a plus.
• Familiarity with modern web components/architecture/standards is a plus.
• Experience with React is a plus.
• Experience with a full Amazon AWS deployment a plus.
• Experience in Linux administration is a plus.
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Good understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and microservices architecture is desirable.
