Since its founding in 1894 as a cotton fabric wholesaler in Japan, Kowa Group has grown into a global enterprise with more than a 125 years-long history.

Today, Kowa actively engages in various businesses including the manufacturing, sales and marketing of ethical and OTC pharmaceutical products, consumer healthcare products, medical equipment, trading of textiles, machinery, and construction materials, and the manufacturing and sales of energy saving products. Annual sales exceed JPY 420 billion.

Recently, Kowa has been broadening Rx business centered on lifestyle related diseases and sensory organ disorders.

The LIVALO tablets (Pitavastatin) are used to treat hyperlipidemia. LIVALO is a medicine that lowers cholesterol levels in blood, and has therefore earned a reputation for being a reliable drug. Currently, LIVALO is sold not only in Japan, but also in five different continents around the world.

In 2017, the manufacturing and sales of Parmodia (Pemafibrate) a hyperlipidemia treating agent which lowers neutral fats in the blood and raises HDL-cholesterol, was approved in Japan.

Kowa, as with LIVALO, is looking beyond Japan, conducting large-scale Parmodia clinical trials globally to actively expand overseas.

In addition, Kowa has produced and sold the first action mechanism (Rho Kinase Inhibitor) for glaucoma and ocular hypertension treatment agent GLANATEC (Ripasudil) in Japan and been planning to expand ASEAN countries.

Kowa is working to set up a new Rx organization at the regional headquarter, Kowa Pharmaceutical Asia PTE. LTD., in Singapore to expand the market of these Rx products to ASEAN region.
