Java Developer - Contract

We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer to join a technology team within a leading financial services organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and enhancing backend applications and financial platforms, with a strong focus on Java, Spring Boot and scalable enterprise solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-performance systems supporting critical business functions.

1. Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java, Spring and Spring Boot.
2. Build scalable and reliable financial applications while ensuring performance, security and maintainability.
3. Integrate backend systems with internal platforms and external services to support efficient data flows.
4. Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment and production support.
5. Write clean, efficient and maintainable code following engineering best practices.
6. Conduct code reviews and contribute to improving development standards and CI/CD processes.
7. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across development and production environments.
8. Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders and engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
9. Support application releases, change management activities and post-production implementation.

1. Strong hands-on experience in Java backend development.
2. Good knowledge of Core Java, including collections, concurrency, JSON, JDBC and related libraries.
3. Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, JDBC templates and messaging frameworks (JMS preferred).
4. Experience developing enterprise applications and integrating complex systems.
5. Understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, code review and CI/CD processes.
6. Basic knowledge of Unix/Linux environments and scripting.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
8. Comfortable working in an Agile development environment with global teams.
