We are seeking an experienced Oil Trading Director to lead and grow our oil trading business across physical and/or paper markets. The role is responsible for developing trading strategy, driving profitability, managing commercial relationships, and overseeing risk, execution, and cross-functional coordination with operations, finance, and logistics teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the company’s oil trading activities across crude oil, refined products, or related energy products, in line with commercial and risk objectives.
Develop and execute trading strategies to drive revenue growth, optimize margins, and expand market presence.
Take ownership of desk or portfolio P&L, including performance monitoring, exposure management, and opportunity evaluation.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers, brokers, refiners, shipping partners, and other counterparties.
Negotiate commercial contracts, pricing structures, and transaction terms for purchase and sale activities.
Work closely with operations, scheduling, shipping, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution of trades and timely fulfillment.
Monitor global and regional oil market developments, supply-demand trends, freight movements, arbitrage opportunities, and pricing differentials.
Ensure disciplined compliance with internal controls, trading mandates, risk limits, and regulatory requirements.
Provide leadership to the trading team, including mentoring junior traders and strengthening commercial capabilities across the desk.
Identify opportunities to expand the business through new products, markets, storage, logistics, or strategic partnerships.
Candidate Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field; advanced qualifications are an advantage.
At least 10–15 years of relevant experience in oil trading, commodity trading, or energy markets, with substantial senior-level exposure.
Proven track record in physical and/or paper oil trading with direct responsibility for commercial performance and P&L delivery.
Strong understanding of crude oil and/or refined products markets, pricing mechanisms, differentials, hedging tools, and risk management principles.
Experience in contract negotiation, counterparty management, and structured or cross-border transactions.
Good knowledge of trade execution, scheduling, shipping, storage, and logistics considerations in oil markets.
Strong leadership, decision-making, and commercial judgment in fast-moving market conditions.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Familiarity with trading systems, risk tools, and advanced Excel; knowledge of ETRM platforms is an advantage.
Ability to travel when required and manage counterparties across multiple markets.
