Job Description - Executive Director of Investments
What you'll do:
As Executive Director Head of Investment, you will play an instrumental role in guiding the organisation’s financial stewardship across its extensive network of businesses and social enterprises. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with senior leaders to craft forward-thinking investment strategies that not only drive commercial value but also advance the broader social mission. You will be responsible for optimising capital flows between entities, ensuring robust risk mitigation practices are in place, and maintaining high standards of corporate governance throughout all operations. Collaborate closely with portfolio companies and internal stakeholders to develop and maintain a comprehensive investment strategy that aligns entity-level plans with overarching group objectives.
Lead the evaluation of asset health and new investment opportunities by consistently assessing them against organisational mission, risk appetite, and long-term sustainability goals.
Drive negotiations for new deals by securing protective covenants, optimal valuations, and clear exit mechanisms while ensuring rigorous due diligence across financial, legal, environmental, social, and governance dimensions.
Optimise capital allocation and fund deployment across various entities to achieve fiscal stability and deliver risk-adjusted financial returns in line with the organisation’s mission-driven context.
Advise senior management on structuring diverse internal funding mechanisms that support overall financial position and risk profile coherence.
Build resilient capital protection frameworks designed to shield assets from macroeconomic fluctuations while mitigating potential risks effectively.
Oversee the Finance Department in developing budgets, forecasts, financial strategies, regulatory filings, and reporting processes that underpin organisational growth.
Monitor and enforce shareholder agreements, funding arrangements, and other formal instruments governing inter-entity financial relationships within the group.
Present financial results, strategic milestones, and governance compliance updates to senior management and Board of Trustees as part of board-level communication responsibilities.
Maintain ultimate accountability for enterprise risk management (ERM) and regulatory compliance by safeguarding group assets, reputation, and standing through effective oversight.
What you bring:
To excel as Executive Director Head of Investment you will bring an impressive background marked by progressive responsibility within large-scale finance environments—ideally spanning corporate finance leadership roles or board-level advisory positions. Your academic foundation should be complemented by advanced professional qualifications that underscore your commitment to best practice stewardship. You will have honed your ability to manage intricate stakeholder relationships within multifaceted organisations such as sovereign wealth funds or institutional investors.
At least 15 years’ experience in corporate finance, private equity or portfolio management is essential with a minimum of 5 years operating at senior leadership or board-advisory capacity within complex organisations.
Demonstrated success navigating multi-stakeholder structures such as sovereign wealth funds or institutional asset managers is vital for this position.
Proven ability to formulate robust financial governance policies while upholding diversity commitments and dependability under pressure is expected from candidates applying for this role.
Exceptional skills in capital allocation optimisation coupled with deep understanding of risk-adjusted return methodologies are necessary for effective performance.
Experience leading teams responsible for budgeting processes, forecasting models, regulatory filings and statutory reporting requirements is highly desirable.
Strong track record in negotiating high-value deals including anchoring protective covenants and establishing clear exit mechanisms is advantageous.
Expertise in enterprise risk management (ERM), FICA compliance frameworks as well as familiarity with ESG considerations during due diligence processes are important assets.
Outstanding interpersonal communication abilities enabling clear presentation of complex financial data to boards or senior stakeholders are required for success here.
