Job Description - Finance Manager (Maritime Clean-Tech)

About Pyxis:

Pyxis is a fast-growing maritime start-up designing and contracting the assembly of innovative electric coastal vessels. Pyxis is committed to transforming coastal shipping with sustainable, zero-emission solutions. Pyxis is scaling rapidly, aiming to deliver 100 vessels annually, and we are looking for a dynamic Finance Manager for this expansion.

Purpose of the Role:

The Finance Manager is responsible for the company’s overall finance operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, compliance, internal controls, project/vessel profitability analysis and financial modelling. The role partners closely with the CEO and senior management to provide actionable financial insights, support maritime project execution and strengthen the company’s financial discipline, scalability and long-term business performance.

The Finance Manager also supports banking, audit, tax, grant, investor and stakeholder-related matters, ensuring accurate financial records, strong governance and reliable financial insights for the company’s maritime projects and business expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Finance

• Act as a key strategic partner to the CEO and senior management on financial performance, forecasting, risk management and business planning.

• Provide financial insights on capital allocation, ROI, project and vessel profitability, pricing, cost control, cash flow and evolving maritime business models.

• Support decision-making for maritime projects, vessel operations, infrastructure initiatives and business expansion plans.

Financial Operations & Accounting

• Oversee full-spectrum accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, month-end and year-end closing, bank reconciliations, payment processing, accruals, prepayments and fixed asset accounting.

• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documents in accordance with applicable accounting standards, statutory requirements and company policies.

• Review supplier invoices, customer billings, staff claims, payment documentation and approval workflows to ensure accuracy and proper authorisation.

• Drive continuous improvement in finance processes, systems, controls and data quality to support scalability and operational efficiency.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Modelling

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and actual-versus-budget reviews to support data-driven management decisions.

• Build and maintain financial models for cash runway, business planning, scenario analysis, project/vessel profitability, pricing, ROI assessment, fundraising support and management decision-making.

• Prepare and present monthly and quarterly management reports, financial dashboards and cash-flow projections to the CEO, senior management and Board where required.

• Analyse financial trends, cost drivers, margins and working capital movements, and recommend corrective actions where required.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

• Develop and maintain finance policies, approval limits, payment controls, procurement controls, segregation of duties and documentation standards.

• Ensure timely compliance with applicable Singapore accounting, statutory, tax and regulatory requirements, including audit, corporate tax, ACRA filing support, ECI and GST matters where applicable.

• Coordinate with external auditors, tax agents, corporate secretary, legal counsel and other advisors on audits, filings, compliance matters, structuring and cross-border transactions where applicable.

• Monitor financial risks and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure reliable financial reporting.

Cash Flow, Banking, Funding & Grants

• Coordinate with banks and internal stakeholders on financing facilities, including preparation of loan/facility drawdown prerequisites, supporting documents, bank forms, payment schedules and related financing documentation.

• Maintain banking relationships and support financing facilities relevant to business operations, maritime projects and infrastructure initiatives.

• Support capital-raising initiatives, including equity, debt, grants and strategic financing, by preparing financial models, investor materials, data rooms and responses to due diligence queries.

• Support grant applications, claims, reporting and compliance for relevant government or maritime-related funding schemes where applicable.

Maritime Project Finance & Stakeholder Support

• Track and analyse vessel/project costs, project budgets, capital expenditure, operating expenses, inventory or spares where applicable, and project profitability.

• Support finance review of commercial contracts, payment milestones, insurance matters, bank guarantees, performance bonds and financial risk exposures where applicable.

• Maintain clear, accurate and credible financial communications with banks, investors, Board Members, auditors, advisors and external stakeholders as required.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or a related discipline preferred.

• Professional qualification such as CA Singapore, CPA, ACCA, CFA or equivalent is advantageous.

• 5-8 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a finance management, FP&A or accounting operations role.

• Hands-on experience with full-spectrum accounting, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, audit and tax compliance.

• Strong financial modelling, analysis and reporting experience, preferably in a startup, SME, project-based, maritime, shipping, infrastructure or engineering environment.

• Experience supporting funding, grants, investor reporting, bank facilities or project financing is advantageous.

• Experience supervising outsourced accountants, vendors or junior finance support is advantageous.
