Job Description - Manager, Finance

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Special Olympics International (SOI), headquartered in Washington, DC, is a global non-governmental organization founded on the belief that persons with intellectual disabilities learn, enjoy, and benefit from participation in year-round individual and team sports training and competition. Today, more than 6 million children and adults with intellectual disabilities participate in over 100,000 games and competitions in over 190 countries. The Asia Pacific Region consists of 35 countries from Japan, Afghanistan, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance manager reports to the Director of Finance and will be responsible for all accounting transactions, finance month end close, financial data analysis, and all financial compliance activities of the organization. The role will also support the Director of Finance in all bank transactions, bank account management and cash forecasting. This is a replacement role in the finance and admin function of Special Olympics Asia Pacific. We are looking for an experienced and versatile individual keen to grow in the role and with a growing organization, who is hands on, an independent and team worker, and capable of operating across a broad spectrum of responsibilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Finance manager include, but are not limited to:

Finance

  • Manage all invoices, receipts, payments and other financial transactions
  • Recording of financial transactions.
  • Cash management.
  • Financial reporting and analysis.
  • Assist in budget planning, forecasting and budgetary controls.
  • Financial data analysis and cash forecasting to support decision making.
  • Identify, rollout and upkeep of metrics on the key performance and compliance indicators of the organization.
  • Identify and improve on internal processes.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance to Special Olympics policies and procedures, and all regulatory requirements and audits the organization is subject to. Remain current with and report out on changing regulations in the non-profit sector.
  • Review and update existing financial and other policies impacting compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Annual Financial Audit.

Others

  • Provide grant management support in the areas of grant governance & compliance, grant process improvements and grant reporting.
  • Develop & update internal policies and procedures to support the grants compliance program; and build & introduce replicable processes for grant reviews.
  • Ad hoc management and administrative support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Accounting qualification or equivalent with relevant experience of not less than 10 years directly related to the duties and responsibilities mentioned.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to be hands-on as required, along with skills in organization, time management and prioritization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including compliance policies, procedures and complex concepts, to a culturally and professionally diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and strength in learning new technologies and programs.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a group.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Not less than 10 years of finance experience supporting a business or non-profit organization
  • Grant management or project management experience.
  • Navision accounting software or similar accounting software.
  • Experience working in a regional or global landscape.
