Job Description - Network Engineers

The Network Engineer will design, implement,and maintain critical network infrastructure across on‑premise data centers andcloud environments. This role focuses on automation, reliability, operational excellence, and security to ensure high‑performing, resilient systems. You willcollaborate with engineering teams, troubleshoot complex issues, and enablescalable deployment and management of applications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure Automation &Operational Enablement

  • Develop automation scripts, workflows, and processes that simplify the deployment, configuration, and scaling of applications in both on‑premise and cloud environments.
  • Build tools and frameworks that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

2. Troubleshooting & IncidentResponse

  • Diagnose and resolve network and system issues across multiple layers (infrastructure, platform, and application).
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and provide support during major incidents, ensuring quick recovery of customer‑facing services.

3. Solution Ownership & Cross‑TeamSupport

  • Take full ownership of end‑to‑end network solutions delivered across the organisation.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to validate, optimise, and maintain network components.

4. Monitoring, Performance & Reliability

  • Deploy, configure, and manage monitoring systems to track infrastructure health, utilisation, performance, and availability.
  • Analyse data to identify bottlenecks and proactively resolve system vulnerabilities or performance issues.

5. Configuration Management &Disaster Recovery

  • Implement and manage configuration management systems that ensure consistency across environments.
  • Automate backup, failover, and disaster recovery procedures to improve business continuity.

6. Security & Compliance

  • Apply security best practices and ensure network configurations comply with organisational and industry standards.
  • Strengthen network defences through hardening, access control, encryption practices, and threat mitigation strategies.

Required Technical Skills

Core Networking Expertise

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, switching, routing, and OSI layer protocols.
  • Knowledge of load balancing concepts, server networking, and performance optimisation.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux server networking environments.

Network Infrastructure & Operations

  • Hands‑on experience in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting WAN, LAN, wireless, voice, structured cabling, and network security systems.
  • Familiarity with firewalls, IDS/IPS configurations, NAT, DNS, DHCP, and ensuring optimal health of wireless networks.

Automation & Provisioning

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Vagrant, Docker, or equivalent technologies.
  • Ability to leverage automation for configuration management and scaling.

Security & Advanced Concepts

  • Understanding of Network Access Control (NAC), PKI, common cybersecurity threats, and mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of CDN concepts and distributed network optimisation.
  • Awareness of emerging networking technologies:
  • SD‑WAN, VXLAN, OpenFlow, Open vSwitch
  • OpenStack / CloudStack networking
  • NFV (Network Functions Virtualization)
  • SASE (Zero Trust, CASB, Secure Web Gateways)
  • Networking for IoT ecosystems

Soft Skills & Attributes

  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong follow‑through and ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Able to work independently under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Clear communicator, both written and verbal, capable of explaining technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Customer‑focused mindset with a commitment to service reliability and quality.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Relevant experience in enterprise networking, infrastructure automation, troubleshooting, and network operations is strongly preferred.
