Job Description - Senior Investment Officer

Job Description & Requirements

Business Development is Millennium's in-house sourcing and diligence function responsible for identifying and attracting top-tier investment talent and external investment opportunities. The team performs rigorous due diligence on candidates and alpha return streams, and facilitates contract negotiation, business build-out, and the ongoing development of market-leading portfolio teams across the Firm. As a Senior Investment Officer, you will lead Business Development (BD) for Millennium's Asia Fixed Income and Commodities businesses. You will own candidate engagement, talent pipelining, due diligence, and screening for Portfolio Manager (PM), Senior Portfolio Manager (SPM), and external investment hiring across these asset classes in the region. Working alongside BD colleagues, APAC and Global Senior management, and portfolio teams, you will define talent needs, build and maintain high-caliber candidate pools across the Fixed Income and Commodities spectrum, and drive the full lifecycle from sourcing through onboarding, while exercising judgment on the suitability and strategic fit of each opportunity within the firm's Asia Fixed Income and Commodities footprint.

Responsibilities

Sourcing & Talent Origination

  • Source and engage Fixed Income and Commodities PM/SPM and investment talent across Asia through direct search, referrals, vendors, recruiting platforms, and personal industry networks.
  • Build and maintain sub-strategy-specific pipelines of high-quality investing talent across the Asia Fixed Income and Commodities universe (e.g., rates, credit, EM, FX, macro, energy, metals, agriculture) through systematic company mapping and direct outreach.
  • Partner with global business heads, sector heads, and the OCIO through candidate and investment evaluation to align origination with firm priorities and ensure strategic fit.
  • Partner with Risk to conduct quantitative analysis of candidates' return streams, assessing the quality, repeatability, and risk-adjusted characteristics of their alpha
  • Partner with APAC management and portfolio managers to define hiring needs and translate them into actionable talent strategies and business plans, including in new or developing strategy areas (e.g., set up of a new Commodities investment or expanding Asia credit coverage

Due Diligence & Evaluation

  • Lead due diligence on Fixed Income and Commodities candidates and their alpha return streams, assessing strategy, track record, risk profile, capacity, and suitability against role requirements and platform fit.
  • Review and screen candidate profiles, conducting initial and advanced evaluation to match prospects with current and anticipated needs across the Asia Fixed Income and Commodities platform
  • Provide informed input into asset allocation and capital deployment decisions, evaluating opportunities at both the individual-mandate level and against the broader Asia Fixed Income and Commodities strategy mix (e.g., diversification across terminal value, macro, swap RV vs. fundamental, and commodities sub-sectors)

Deal Execution & Onboarding

  • Spearhead the full recruitment lifecycle for risk taker Fixed Income and Commodities hires — from sourcing and business-case development through internal approval, offer negotiation, and onboarding.
  • Manage candidate flow across multiple channels, including external recruiting firms, employee referrals, and job postings, managing expectations across hiring managers, vendors, and candidates.
  • Own the PM onboarding process end to end, including handover to Trading Services and partners within Business Management, collaborating with senior and operational leaders across business units to scale onboarding, ensure overall onboarding satisfaction, and communicate status to internal stakeholders.
  • Drive identification, transparency, escalation, and resolution of risks and issues through to closure.

Stakeholder Management & Governance

  • Coordinate internally with SPMs, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and the Fixed Income and Commodities business heads to support the build-out of new and existing teams.
  • Collaborate with the global BD team on best practices and hiring and business strategy, sharing market intelligence across regions and asset classes.
  • Maintain strong partnerships with Compliance, HR, Accounting, Tax, and other core functions to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures and a seamless build-out process.
  • Partner with brokers and Capital Introduction to source opportunities and to manage the firm's brand and narrative in the marketplace.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data in the firm's CRM and pipeline-tracking tools.

Market Intelligence

  • Stay current on macro and micro themes across Asia Fixed Income and Commodities markets to strengthen dialogue with portfolio teams and sharpen origination focus.
  • Proactively inform senior management of industry developments and recommend priority areas for Fixed Income and Commodities talent acquisition in the region.
  • Represent the firm at industry and hedge fund conferences and with key counterparties (e.g., Prime Brokerage / Capital Introduction).

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the financial industry; Asia Fixed Income and/or Commodities market domain practice preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, commitment to excellent, and possess a strong existing Fixed Income and Commodities industry network and reputation across the region.
  • Deep understanding of Fixed Income and Commodities investment processes and strategies — research/idea generation, portfolio construction, risk management, and team build-out and growth planning.
  • Excellent organizational, technical, and analytical skills; strong attention to detail; and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously with strong ownership.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the credibility to engage senior investment talent and the curiosity to learn new products and asset classes.
  • A collaborative team player able to thrive in a fast-moving, high-pressure, constantly changing environment
