The Solution Architect is responsible for shaping the overall technical direction of systems and ensuring that solutions align with the organisation’s enterprise architecture, technology standards, and long‑term strategic goals. This role oversees the end‑to‑end architecture—from conceptual design through delivery—while providing guidance to development teams to ensure architectural integrity, performance, and maintainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. End‑to‑End System Architecture
Define and maintain the architectural vision for systems, ensuring that detailed designs and implementation work adhere to established enterprise architecture principles.
Provide oversight and direction throughout the SDLC to maintain architectural consistency and technical quality.
Analyse business requirements— including performance, scalability, and resiliency needs— and convert them into clear architectural specifications and design artefacts.
Ensure that architecture decisions support both functional and non‑functional needs.
3. Technology Advisory & SolutionRecommendations
Recommend suitable platforms, tools, and technologies that align with enterprise standards, cloud strategies, legacy modernisation goals, and industry best practices.
Evaluate new technologies to support digital transformation and advise on adoption suitability (e.g., cloud-native architectures, APIs, containers, SG Tech Stack components).
4. Architecture Blueprinting &Governance
Design holistic architecture blueprints covering business processes, data flows, application components, and infrastructure models.
Govern architectural compliance and continuously evolve the blueprint to maintain alignment between business goals and ICT strategies.
5. Technical Review & QualityAssurance
Participate in solution reviews, code inspections, and technical assessments as part of the development lifecycle.
Identify architectural risks, propose mitigation strategies, and ensure that designs are robust, secure, and scalable.
6. Collaboration & StakeholderEngagement
Work directly with technical leads, engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to ensure that architectural decisions are understood and properly implemented.
Clearly communicate technical concepts and influence decision‑makers through structured reasoning and strong presentation skills.
Support teams in navigating complex technical challenges and ensuring smooth project delivery.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Leadership
Experience serving as a system architect or technical lead, managing system design, prototyping, performance optimisation, and system maintenance.
Strong hands‑on understanding of end‑to‑end project development cycles.
Core Technical Expertise
Proficiency in designing and implementing applications using .NET and/or Java (J2EE) technologies.
Solid understanding of server‑side development, SOA principles, microservices, integration patterns, and web‑based service development.
Strong data modelling capabilities and advanced SQL knowledge.
Ability to perform technology evaluations and recommend solutions aligned with enterprise direction.
Solution Engineering
Able to analyse complex requirements and propose solutions that are technically sound, scalable, secure, and maintainable.
Skilled in balancing functional demands with architectural constraints to deliver practical and effective designs.
Soft Skills & Behaviours
Results‑oriented with a strong customer‑centric mindset.
Highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and articulate technical concepts clearly.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to guide teams in navigating technical challenges.
Qualifications
Minimum
Degree or Diploma in any discipline, with supporting hands‑on experience in software architecture, design, and development.
Preferred
Experience in enterprise architecture, cloud-based designs, legacy modernisation, and working with government architecture standards (e.g., SG Tech Stack).
Practical experience in large‑scale system design and integration efforts.
