Senior Information Assistant (Library & Information Services Centre) [NIE]

The NIE Library and Information Services Centre is seeking creative, innovative and service-oriented candidates who are able to work independently and collaboratively in transforming the library for the 21st century.

This position provides support for sourcing, acquiring and processing of library resources to meet the teaching, learning and research needs of the NIE community.

Key Responsibilities

• Support academic staff in their recommendations and enquiries relating to library resources.

• Liaise with vendors on the acquisition and subscription of library materials, including payment and renewal-related matters.

• Ensure electronic resources are accessible and working, and resolve access-related and basic technical issues.

• Maintain and update records relating to acquisitions, subscriptions, and electronic resources.

• Assist in the compilation of usage statistics.

• Source and order articles/papers from journals, books, and conference proceedings required by users that are not available in the Library’s collection.

• Contribute to workflow improvement and service enhancement activities by exploring and applying AI-enabled tools where appropriate.

General Duties

• Provide frontline information desk services on scheduled evenings and Saturdays

• Participate in library projects and initiatives where required.

Requirements

• A Polytechnic Diploma, preferably in library studies

• Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in academic libraries, or the financial or service sectors.

• Basic working knowledge of acquisitions and/or subscriptions in an academic library environment is an advantage.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with ability to learn library systems and digital platforms.

• Good interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with library colleagues, NIE and external communities.

• Strong customer service orientation.

• Detail-oriented and enjoys problem-solving.

• Fresh graduates and candidates with less experience who have a keen interest in library work and a willingness to learn and grow in the role may also be considered.
