Job Description - BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM) TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

The Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technician isresponsible for preparing, developing, and maintaining accurate 3D BIM modelsand technical drawings for construction projects. The role supports architects,engineers, project managers, and contractors by ensuring all BIM models complywith project specifications, industry standards, and company procedures.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain accurate 3D BIM models using BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or other approved platforms.
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and as-built drawings.
  • Convert 2D drawings into 3D BIM models.
  • Coordinate architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) models to identify and resolve design conflicts.
  • Perform clash detection and assist in resolving coordination issues before construction.
  • Ensure BIM models comply with project specifications, client requirements, and BIM execution plans.
  • Produce schedules, material quantities, and reports from BIM models.
  • Support project teams during design development, construction, and project completion.
  • Maintain BIM standards, templates, and company drawing protocols.
  • Review consultant and subcontractor drawings for consistency and accuracy.
  • Update models based on design revisions, site changes, and engineer instructions.
  • Assist engineers and project managers in design coordination meetings.
  • Prepare documentation for submission to clients, consultants, and relevant authorities.
  • Maintain proper document control and revision history for BIM files.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality management systems and applicable construction standards.
  • Coordinate with procurement and fabrication teams to ensure accurate production drawings.
  • Assist in developing BIM workflows and improving modelling efficiency.
  • Support digital collaboration through Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms where applicable.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Building Information Modelling (BIM), Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of construction drawings and engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
  • Knowledge of BIM Level of Development (LOD) standards.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in BIM modelling or drafting within the construction, engineering, or prefabrication industry.
