Job Description - Deputy Commercial Manager/Commercial Manager

About the Role

We invite suitable candidates to apply for the position of Commercial Manager to support the commercial, contractual, and financial management of major rail, electrical, and infrastructure projects.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing tendering, contract administration, cost control, variations, and claims, while ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and alignment with project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage and administer project contracts in accordance with contractual terms, company policies, and project requirements.
  • Review contract conditions, identify commercial risks, and advise project teams on contractual and commercial matters.
  • Support contract negotiations, amendments, and clarifications with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.


Tendering & Procurement Support

  • Coordinate and support tendering activities, including pre-qualification, tender submissions, commercial evaluations, and clarifications.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier quotations, commercial terms, and cost breakdowns.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of tender pricing, commercial proposals, and supporting documentation.


Cost Control & Financial Management

  • Monitor project costs, cash flow, and budget utilisation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and review payment claims, progress payments, and final accounts.
  • Support cost forecasting, variation assessments, and financial reporting to management.


Variations, Claims & Final Accounts

  • Manage variation orders, extension of time (EOT), and claims in accordance with contract provisions.
  • Prepare, substantiate, and negotiate variation claims and final accounts with clients and consultants.
  • Maintain proper records to support commercial claims and dispute resolution, where applicable.


Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and site teams to ensure commercial alignment with project execution.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors, and subcontractors on commercial and contractual matters.
  • Support project audits, commercial reviews, and management reporting requirements.


Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, internal procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain proper documentation and records for contracts, variations, claims, and commercial correspondence.
  • Support project close-out activities, including final account settlement and commercial handover documentation.


Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, Engineering, Business, or related disciplines.
  • Relevant experience in commercial and contract management within construction, engineering, rail, M&E, or LTA-related projects.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, tendering processes, cost control, and claims management.
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contracts commonly used in infrastructure projects is an advantage.
  • Good analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced project environment.
