Job Description - Head of Back-of-House Operations

About the role

This is a full-time on-site role for Head of Back-of-House Operations who is overall accountable to Back-of-House operations. He/she should be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in either Engineering & Sustainability or Housekeeping & Stewarding. Responsible for ensuring the hotel’s operational infrastructure runs efficiently, sustainably, in full compliance with safety, hygiene, and environmental standardsOversee critical systems, cleanliness, maintenance, and support services that directly impact guest satisfaction and the hotel’s long-term performance

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for Engineering & Sustainability, Housekeeping & Stewarding to ensure seamless coordination across all back-of-house operations.

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to optimize operational efficiency, enhance cleanliness and hygiene standards, and drive sustainability practices that improve guest satisfaction while reducing costs.

  • Lead strategic projects to identify and minimize operational risks through enhanced internal audit practices.

  • Champion Green Mark certification and renewal, environmental goals and best practices, ensuring alignment with company’s sustainability frameworks and relevant government regulations.

  • Lead and support renovation and asset enhancement projects, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations and adherence to quality, safety, and sustainability standards.

  • Establish and lead taskforces focused on Innovative, Sustainability, Productivity, Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) or equivalent projects, offering operational insights and ensuring cross-departmental project success.

  • Drive financial accountability by managing departmental budgets, controlling operational costs, and ensuring achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Manage contracts, licenses, vendor performance, and regulatory compliance.

  • Manage Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) & Operating Expenses (OPEX) proposals to support operational and sustainability improvements.

  • Lead the recruitment, disciplinary management, performance management, and professional development of the team to build a motivated, competent, and service-oriented workforce.

  • Approve timesheets and leave requests, oversee employees’ schedules and optimize resource utilization to maintain operational efficiency.

  • Conduct routine inspections, hygiene audits, and spot checks to ensure strict adherence to safety, hygiene, maintenance, and sustainability standards.

  • Ensure proper handling and compliance with the Chemical Act, Hazardous Substances Act, safety standards and regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cleaning agents and safety requirements.

  • Manage hotel audits to ensure full compliance with all operational, service standards, and timely resolution of non-conformities.

  • Support crisis and risk management efforts, including the implementation of emergency response protocols, incident investigations, and corrective actions to ensure guest and employee safety.

  • Oversee room preventive maintenance and equipment upkeep, including Fire Command Centre (FCC) management.

  • Lead strategic planning initiatives and oversee operational audits to drive departmental improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
