Machining Technician

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation and Setup

1. Operate and set up machinery for:

• Dish head forming (e.g., hydraulic presses, spinning machines)
• Plate rolling (3-roll / 4-roll machines)
• Plate pressing (hydraulic or mechanical presses)
• Structural beam bending machines
• Cone forming equipment

2. Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machine settings and forming sequence.

3. Select appropriate tooling, dies, and rollers based on material type and thickness.

Production and Fabrication
1. Perform forming, bending, and shaping of metal plates and structural components to required dimensions and tolerances.

2. Monitor machining parameters (pressure, speed, temperature, alignment) during operations.

3. Ensure consistency in product quality across batches.

4. Carry out trial runs and adjustments to achieve precise forming results.

Quantity Control
1. Inspect finished products using measuring tools (calipers, gauges, templates).

2. Verify dimensions, curvature, and structural integrity against specifications.

3. Identify defects such as cracks, deformation, or misalignment and take corrective action.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting
1. Perform routine machine maintenance and lubrication.

2. Identify and troubleshoot machine issues or abnormal operations.

3. Coordinate with maintenance team for major repairs or breakdowns.

4. Ensure machines are in good working condition before operation.

Workplace Safety and Compliance
1. Adhere strictly to safety procedures and PPE requirements.

2. Operate machinery in compliance with company safety standards and regulations.

3. Maintain clean and organized work area.

4. Report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly.

Documentation and Reporting
1. Record production data, machine settings, and output quantities.

2. Maintain logs for maintenance, inspections, and job completion.

3. Report production issues or delays to supervisors.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience
1. NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, or related field.

2. Minimum 2–5 years of experience in metal forming, fabrication, or heavy machinery operation.

3. Experience in pressure vessel, structural steel, or fabrication industry preferred.

Technical Skills
1. Strong knowledge of metal forming processes (rolling, pressing, bending, spinning).

2. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

3. Familiarity with different materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys).

4. Basic knowledge of machine calibration and tooling setup.

Soft Skills

1. Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

2. Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

4. Strong sense of responsibility and safety awareness.

Physical Requirements
1. Ability to handle heavy materials and work in a fabrication environment.
