Job Description - Quantity Surveyor

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates, Quotations, budgets, BOQ, tender pricing, and cost comparison for gas / water pipe laying, cable laying, reinstatement, and related civil works projects.
  • Take off quantities from drawings, specifications, and tender documents for PowerGrid / PUB / utility infrastructure works.
  • Prepare and submit progress claims, variation claims, final accounts, and supporting documents based on actual site measurements and work done.
  • Monitor daily laying progress, meter records, work done quantities, and maintain accurate measurement / claim records.
  • Verify actual site work done against quantities certified by the main contractor, and follow up on reduced meters, omitted works, or claim deductions.
  • Evaluate subcontractor / supplier quotations, claims, and invoices, and prepare subcontract documents, work orders, and purchase orders.
  • Monitor project costs, material costs, labour costs, machinery costs, subcontractor costs, certified amounts, outstanding claims, and payment status.
  • Liaise with project team, main contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants on commercial, contractual, measurement, and claim matters.
  • Prepare project cost reports, profit and loss analysis, and maintain proper records of quotations, claims, VO, invoices, payments, and commercial documents.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings for quantity take-off, claim preparation, and project coordination, and use AutoCAD / relevant BIM software where required.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years and above relevant experience in construction, civil engineering, utility infrastructure, or pipe / cable laying projects.
  • Experience in gas pipe laying, water pipe laying, cable laying, road reinstatement, excavation, utility works, PowerGrid / PUB / infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of tendering, cost estimation, BOQ, progress claims, variation orders, subcontractor claims, and final accounts.
  • Must - read drawings, take off quantities accurately, and monitor site progress, work done measurements, and claim quantities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and familiar with BIM / drawing coordination software.
  • Good communication, coordination, negotiation, and record-keeping skills.
  • Responsible, organised, detail-oriented, and able to work independently under tight deadlines.
  • Must travel to worksites, clients’ offices, and attend site / project meetings as required.
