Budget Tracking: Monitor ongoing project costs, material usage, and JIT purchase requisitions against initial tender budgets to flag cost variances.
Material Coordination: Maintain strong daily liaison with the purchasing and accounts departments to align cash flow requirements with ongoing project milestones.
Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Building, Construction Management, or a related field.
Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, formulas, cost-comparison sheets). Experience with AutoCAD or digital measurement software (e.g., CostX, Glodon) is highly advantageous.

Fabrication & Assembly Details: Produce precise workshop cutting drawings, assembly layouts, and connection details. Look for exact weld profiles, bolt patterns, plate dimensions, and specific clearance allowances to prevent layout clashes on-site.
Bill of Materials (BOM): Generate highly accurate material schedules, cutting lists, and bolt lists from approved drawings to streamline JIT (Just-In-Time) procurement and minimize raw material wastage.
Discrepancy Identification: Review incoming architectural and structural contract drawings to cross-reference dimensions, spot design inconsistencies, and check interface boundaries early.
RFI Generation: Draft clear, precise technical Queries or Requests for Information (RFIs) to main contractors or consultants when site realities conflict with design intents.
Site Alignment: Work closely with project engineers and site surveyors to translate actual site measurements (as-built dimensions) back into the fabrication drawings before manufacturing begins.
3. Compliance & Standards
Regulatory & Code Compliance: Ensure all metal works drawings align with local structural codes and regulatory agency parameters (such as BCA, LTA, or SCDF regulations regarding steel thicknesses, safety clearances, and stair/ladder profiles).
Standard Compliance: Apply correct welding profiles, symbols, and structural steel tolerances in accordance with relevant regional standards (e.g., Eurocode 3, SS codes, or specialized design specifications).
Revision Management: Meticulously update drawings based on consultant comments, maintain an organized drawing registry, and manage version controls so the workshop floor never cuts from obsolete revisions.
Software Expertise: Strong command of AutoCAD (2D) is mandatory. Professional proficiency in 3D modeling platforms like Tekla Structures (highly preferred for structural steel), SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor is a substantial advantage.
Drawing Interpretation: Deep capacity to read, interpret, and cross-examine multi-disciplinary construction blueprints (Architectural, Structural, and M&E layouts).
