Job Description - Embedded System Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an Embedded System Engineer to join our AI-driven energy management development team. You will play a key role in developing the next generation of our first-in-market Edge AI controller, in collaboration with a global leader in HVAC systems. This role spans both hardware and firmware — from schematic review and prototype bring-up to embedded software development — as we move into our Generation 2 platform and expand deployments across Singapore and the region.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Solution Evaluation & Interface Integration

  • Conduct solution-level pre-evaluation of next-generation Edge AI controller hardware: assess reference designs, SoC/module options, and sensing approaches before committing to ODM development
  • Own the key interface connectivity of the product: Modbus RTU over RS-485, proprietary HVAC equipment connector interfaces (e.g. serial interfaces to air-conditioning indoor units), and power monitoring sensor interfaces (CT/current clamps, metering ICs)
  • Define interface specifications and review the ODM's implementation of these interfaces for correctness and robustness
  • Conduct prototype bring-up and acceptance validation of ODM-delivered hardware: bench testing with oscilloscope and logic analyser, interface signal verification, and preparation of validation reports
  • Support sensing and sub-metering setup for commercial and industrial deployments, including CT integration and installation-side wiring standards

Embedded Firmware Development

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware on MCU-class platforms (ARM Cortex-M / RISC-V, e.g. NXP, ESP32) and ARM-based Linux platforms (Cortex-A)
  • Interface with power monitoring sensors and peripherals via I2C, SPI, UART, and ADC
  • Implement integration logic between real-time data acquisition, on-device AI modules, and control outputs
  • Develop and maintain network communication — WiFi/BLE connectivity, MQTT, Modbus TCP, REST API
  • Support OTA update mechanisms for remote firmware upgrades
  • Optimise system performance for edge processing: memory footprint, CPU utilisation, and real-time data flow

Deployment & Field Support

  • Debug and resolve real-world deployment issues; support field validation and performance tuning for pilot and commercial deployments in Singapore and regional markets
  • Collaborate with the System Architect / Integration Lead (Founder), internal firmware engineers, and external ODM partners

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Solid grounding in electronics fundamentals: analog/mixed-signal circuits, power regulation, and signal conditioning — able to read schematics and evaluate hardware designs critically
  • Hands-on hardware experience: prototype bring-up and bench-level validation (oscilloscope, logic analyser); experience with schematic capture / PCB tools (e.g. Altium Designer or equivalent) is an advantage for reviewing ODM designs
  • Proficient in C/C++ for embedded systems (MCU bare-metal/RTOS and/or embedded Linux)
  • Familiar with low-level hardware interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, ADC) and communication buses (e.g. CAN, RS-485)
  • Familiarity with wireless connectivity (WiFi/BLE) and network protocols (MQTT, Modbus TCP, REST API) is an advantage
  • Experience with edge AI integration or sensor data processing is a plus
  • Comfortable working in a startup-style fast-paced environment and collaborating with remote and cross-functional teams, including overseas ODM partners
  • Fresh graduates with strong hands-on hardware project experience (e.g. capstone, competition teams, internships) are welcome to apply. Candidates with 1–3 years of experience in embedded hardware or firmware development will have an advantage.

Career Growth & Promotion Path

You will work closely with our System Architect / Integration Lead (Founder), who will serve as your mentor during the initial development phases. As the team's hardware anchor, you will own the hardware specification and validation discipline for our next-generation platform — influencing ODM design decisions rather than simply accepting them. As you demonstrate increasing ownership and cross-functional understanding, you will have a clear pathway to grow into a Hardware Lead / Integration Lead role within 1–2 years, leading the architecture of future platforms, managing ODM and chipmaker collaborations, and mentoring junior engineers as the product scales toward regional commercialisation.
