Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our team, a leading firm specialising in the design and manufacture of waste management and municipal equipment. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects that make a real impact on communities and the environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and Development

• Lead the design and development of waste management and municipal equipment, ensuring all products meet safety, quality, and performance standards.

• Utilize advanced CAD software to create detailed 2D, 3D models and technical drawings.

• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new designs and modifications.

• Construct and maintain accurate BOMs and revision control systems, building a standard parts directory, material library and producing company engineering standards.

Project Management

• Oversee projects from concept through to production, managing timelines, budgets, and resources.

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance to ensure seamless project execution.

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and design team members.

Innovation and Improvement

• Drive innovation by researching and integrating new technologies and materials to enhance product performance and sustainability.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions while maintaining product integrity.

Compliance and Standards

• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

• Prepare and review technical documentation and reports, including compliance certifications and testing protocols.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

• Liaise with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical expertise and support.

• Present design concepts and project updates to clients and senior management.

REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechatronic or a related field. Professional engineering qualifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer) preferred.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design engineering, with a proven track record in waste management or municipal equipment. Proficient in mechanical structural calculation.

• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), and knowledge of engineering principles related to mechanical design and fabrication.

• Strong project management skills with experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects. LTA submission, compliance with safety regulations. Engineering support and correspondence to vehicular projects.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and effectively.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
