Permanent Substitute Teacher Responsibilities
The permanent substitute teacher shall provide support for teachers who are released for professional development or other projects, and to cover faculty absences. Selected candidates will be assigned to work in preschool to Grade 5 classrooms.
This is a full-time substitute teaching role that will be on campus during all school workdays and shall be willing to commit to a one-year contract. Permanent substitutes are expected to be on campus on non-student contact school workdays and will participate in relevant professional development or work on projects as needed on these days.
While most time will be spent substitute teaching in Chinese in World Language or Chinese Immersion classrooms, permanent substitutes are expected to be adaptable and willing to assist with other assignments or responsibilities, as needed.
For planned absences, permanent substitutes are expected to collaborate with teachers in advance to discuss lesson plans and expectations. Wherever appropriate and possible, the permanent substitute should take an active role in teaching the class, and the permanent substitute should ensure that teachers receive feedback on how the lesson/s went, as well as any relevant student information
When not teaching, permanent substitutes should take an active role in managing and supervising student activities.
If no substitute teaching role is required, the permanent substitute teacher may be assigned to support as a substitute instructional assistant on an as-needed basis.
The permanent substitute teacher will be assigned a homebase classroom within Kindergarten, Grade 1, or Grade 2 Chinese Immersion, regardless of their daily assignment. They will also provide support to this homebase class as needed.

Position Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred
Teaching license or a degree in education
At least two years of full-time teaching experience preferred
Good verbal and written English and Mandarin Chinese. The successful candidate will be required to converse, read, write/type in both English and Mandarin.
Standards-based curriculum experience preferred
Excellent verbal and written English language skills
Confident technology skills for teaching and administrative tasks
Strong classroom management skills
