Position Responsibilities
Overview
The permanent substitute teacher shall provide support for teachers who are released for professional development or other projects, and to cover faculty absences. Selected candidates will be assigned to a specific division.
This is a full-time substitute teaching role that will be on campus during all school workdays and shall be willing to commit to a one-year contract. Permanent substitutes are expected to be on campus on non-student contact school workdays and will participate in relevant professional development or work on projects as needed on these days.
While most time will be spent substituting in classrooms, permanent substitutes are expected to be adaptable and willing to assist with other assignments or responsibilities, as needed.
For planned absences, permanent substitutes are expected to collaborate with teachers in advance to discuss lesson plans and expectations. Wherever appropriate and possible, the permanent substitute should take an active role in teaching the class, and the permanent substitute should ensure that teachers receive feedback on how the lesson/s went.
When not teaching, permanent substitutes should take an active role in managing and supervising student activities.
High School Permanent Substitute Teacher Responsibilities
Foster a sense of student belonging by cultivating joy and purpose throughout the High School.
Respond to learners’ diverse needs using research-informed interventions and extensions.
Utilize Tier I instructional practices to allow students of all diverse language and learning styles to effectively access learning.
Actively engage in professional learning and growth through regular observation and feedback cycles, walkthroughs, and reflection with Professional Learning Community Coaches and Principals.
Creatively leverage flexible learning spaces and flexible grouping to provide for a variety of learning styles, ability levels, and educational backgrounds
Integrate technology in innovative ways in daily instruction to enhance learning.
Strive for continuous self-improvement as a life-long learner.
Model the Core Values in your interactions with all members of the school community.
Position Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred
Teaching license or a degree in education
At least two years of full-time teaching experience preferred
Standards-based curriculum experience preferred
Experience working as part of a learning community and leveraging flexible spaces preferred
Training and experience with the Science of Reading approach to literacy instruction preferred
Excellent verbal and written English language skills
Confident technology skills for teaching and administrative tasks
Strong classroom management skills
