Job Description - Manager of Development & Alumni Relations

Reports to: Director Advancement, Communications and Admissions (DACA)

OVERVIEW

The position will necessitate close involvement in all facets of fundraising and alumni relations for the SJI International family of schools and reports to the DACA.

In addition to assisting with significant gift fundraising and donor care efforts, s/he will direct the yearly fundraising initiatives. The position holder will interact with parents, faculty, alumni, and other school supporters. Charm, discretion, and a high level of discretion will be required.

This person will also be responsible to craft strategies and executes a range of initiatives and interactions that provides mechanisms for broadening alumni connections and participation and for deepening alumni engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising

● Lead the annual fund activities, which focus on increasing participation in fundraising.

● Recruit, retain, organise and steward the parent volunteer group that supports fundraising.

● Process key major gifts and implement required donation approval processes.

● Prepare briefs and research papers to support senior colleagues in key meetings.

● Draft correspondence to prospective and current supporters.

● Help in organising arrangements for prospect and donor meetings.

● Be the relationship manager for several prospects/donors.

● Assist the DACA in the production of funding proposals.

● Develop and oversee the prospect pipeline on the development database (potentiality), ensuring all records are clean, up-to-date and relevant.

● Coordinate regular review meetings with the DACA, recording all updates and action plans.

● Implement a system to ensure all prospect activity is carried out as scheduled by the relationship manager.

● Systematically review prospect ratings and target gifts to ensure these are always accurate and up to date.

● Create monthly reports on major prospect engagement activity.

● Help develop and adhere to robust fundraising policies and standard operating procedures, including carrying out appropriate due diligence on donors.

Stewardship & Research

● Produce regular communications to supporters, updating them on the impact their donation is making.

● Work with DACA to develop and implement a strategy for donor stewardship (donor listings, naming opportunities, visits, events, regular contact).

● Provide opportunities for members of the community to come forward and find out about the various IPC Funds, key initiatives/projects and how they might offer their support.

● Carry out research to seek prospective donors within the SJI International Community who have both affinity and capacity to support the IPC Funds.

● Ensure that all activities are in compliance with the relevant data protection legislation.

Alumni Engagement

● Engage with targeted communities (including student-alumni engagement pathways, local alumni groups, overseas alumni groups, associate alumni from Preschool and Elementary School, and general alumni).

● Engage with alumni volunteers (including through volunteer engagement and stewardship, alumni-led initiatives, and alumni advisory councils).

● Oversee and manage SJI International relationship with the SJI International Alumni Association which is chaired by a team of Alumni forming the Ex-co.

● Develop and implement a portfolio of engagement programmes for the general alumni base as well as for targeted segments of alumni that provide meaningful opportunities for a) personal and professional development, b) networking, and c) volunteerism and service.

● The Manager’s goals are centred on demonstrating progress towards enhancing the School’s capacity and effectiveness for engaging alumni and for cultivating connections, both within and across the alumni community. These efforts should be evidence of the enhancement of alumni loyalty, dedication, and multi-dimensional support for the School and the Lasallian Mission.

● The Manager must regularly evaluate their effectiveness toward achieving OAR’s core mission vis-à-vis their relevancy to alumni, and modify/eliminate certain events and programmes, if required.

● Overseeing and working closely with the Manager of Marketing and Communications providing a common core department service for communications, marketing, branding, and for interaction through social media and platforms (including Alumni CRM platform, email, e-communications of various forms, social media).

● Is responsible for devising and executing numerous policies, protocols, processes, and everyday work practices for the management of SJI International alumni groups and chapters, for collaborating with departments within the School organise alumni activities, and for connecting with current alumni and also future alumni (current students).

● Oversee and manage other common core Alumni services (including data collection, databases for alumni and partners, reporting/measurement/analytics, event support, department finance and administration).

● Oversee, manage, and ensure compliance (including data protection and PDPA adherence, conflict of interest avoidance, and core SJI International compliance requirements for finance, procurement, HR, and external agreements).

● Broad financial responsibility includes setting fundraising objectives, evaluating results, and developing corrective strategies as needed.

Events

● Together with the Manager of Marketing & Communications plan and the Annual Alumni reunion and other alumni events.

● Plan and execute the annual Scholarship Awards Dinner in conjunction with the Scholarship Programme Manager.

● Participate in and be a member of the committee for fundraising events such as, but not limited to SINGALA, galas, and golfing tournaments.

● Represent SJI International in various Alumni events, seminars, conferences, workshops etc. and build a network in the international education industry.

REQUIREMENTS:

● Bachelor’s Degree in business or marketing or a related field (essential).

● Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in principles and techniques of Development activities, including annual giving, major giving, planned giving, event planning, capital campaigns, marketing and communications, grant procurement, and alumni relations.

● Knowledge of current and evolving trends in advancement and effective international school fundraising practices

● Experience working in the Charity/Not-for-profit sector.

● Experience in managing a team from conceptualisation of a strategy to its close.

● Position requires absolute confidentiality and professionalism in appearance, attitude and presentation.

● Strong oral and written communication skills in English

● Strong relationship-building skills and a high level of confidence in interpersonal interactions with varied staff, stakeholders, Scholarship Committee members and partners.

● Strong competency in Google Suite of products.

● Familiarity with scheduling and hosting Zoom events is highly desirable

● Strong organisational, project management, and data analytic skills

● The ability to multi-task and to work both independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team is essential

● The ability to deliver short presentations to varied audiences is highly desirable

● Ability to travel.
