The Marine Superintendent is primarily responsible to provide operational guidance and oversee vessels in the fleet, including Chemical Tankers. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant marine operations covering navigation, cargo operations, tank cleaning, occupational health, safety, security, and environmental protection, in accordance with international regulations, statutory requirements, and Company management systems. The position also ensures timely collection, review, and follow‑up of all routine and periodical ship reports, in compliance with ISM-ISPS-MLC-ISO & OH&S standards.
Key Responsibilities
Marine Operations & Vetting
Monitor Oil and Chemical tankers closely on all operations, providing guidance on stowage plans, tank cleaning and loading/discharging.
Verify HVPQ, CDI and Q88 information provided by ships and upload to OCIMF/CDI, as applicable. Assist with all vetting questionnaire during pre-fixture stages.
Complete Oil Majors' questionnaire and submit the required documents for clearance/approval.
Attend and support pre‑vetting and vetting inspections as required.
Navigation & Safety
Guide vessels in passage planning, including navigational risk assessment, BAC analysis, and ENC/chart requirements.
Monitor weather analysis & forecast and send gale/TRS warnings to vessels at sea or port-specific notice or circulars for ships in port.
Conduct static and dynamic navigation audits and follow up.
Carry-out periodical marine/safety inspection of ships. Follow-up root-cause analysis and corrective actions completed for each observation.
Compliance, Audits & Reporting
Coordinate internal and external audits/inspections of vessels, conduct audits/inspections where applicable.
Follow up on corrective actions arising from audits, vetting inspections, PSC deficiencies, incidents, near‑misses, and SIRE observations in coordination with the HSSEQ Manager.
Track, update, and close out incident, near‑miss, and non‑conformance reports within agreed timelines.
Collate accident and incident reports and ensure root‑cause analysis and corrective actions are completed.
Capture, review, summarize, and monitor all routine and periodical ship reports for the Company database.
Maintain monthly KPI scorecards for each vessel.
Systems & Documentation
Review and monitor departmental data in ship management software, BASSnet and OLP.
Track all ship’s SSAS for proper operations, routine test and communicate to CSO of any malfunction.
Maintain and update the list of SMS Forms, Checklist and other 4th level manuals in consultation with the Departmental Head.
Review monthly list of charts/publications/ENC & medical supplies from each vessel and suggest any requirement.
Any other projects or responsibilities assigned by the top management.
Job Requirements
Possess Class 1 Certificate of Competency (FG Master Mariner) or tertiary academic education (Nautical Studies or equivalent);
At least 5 years sailing experience on Chemical Tankers (Type 1 or 2), including 1 year experience as Master on Chemical tanker ships or 2 years of relevant shore experience with tertiary academy education;
Strong knowledge of chemical cargo handling, tank cleaning procedure and contamination prevention;
Ability to monitor and guide navigation, cargo operation and vessel performance
Solid understanding of ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO and OH&S standards and application
Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders;
Analytical, decisive, and capable of sound problem‑solving and decision‑making.
Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; and
Demonstrate professionalism and a strong safety culture at all times.
