Job Description - School Principal

Role Overview

The Principal is the chief academic and operational leader of the institution, responsible for providing strategic vision, academic excellence, organisational leadership, and overall management of the school. The Principal leads the development and execution of the school's strategic objectives, ensuring high-quality education, outstanding student outcomes, regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, and institutional growth.

The Principal oversees all academic and operational functions, leads the senior leadership team, and works closely with the Board of Directors to strengthen the school's reputation and achieve long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & School Management

  • Develop and implement the school's strategic vision, goals, and long-term development plans.
  • Provide overall leadership for all academic, administrative, and operational functions.
  • Lead and manage the Senior Leadership Team, including the Vice Principal, Heads of Department, and key administrative leaders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance academic quality, operational efficiency, and student experience.
  • Ensure effective governance, risk management, and institutional accountability.
  • Represent the school professionally to government agencies, accrediting bodies, industry partners, and external stakeholders.

2. Academic Leadership & Excellence

  • Provide strategic leadership for academic programmes including O Level, A Level, and university pathway programmes.
  • Ensure curriculum design, teaching, learning, and assessment meet international education standards and best practices.
  • Monitor academic performance and implement data-driven strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence, innovation, integrity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure students receive effective academic support and are well prepared for examinations and higher education progression.
  • Oversee academic quality assurance, programme reviews, and continuous curriculum enhancement.

3. Faculty Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead the recruitment, development, succession planning, and retention of high-performing academic staff.
  • Establish a culture of excellence through effective performance management and professional development.
  • Mentor and develop senior academic leaders to strengthen leadership capability across the institution.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning among faculty members.
  • Ensure teaching standards remain consistently high across all academic departments.

4. Student Success & Pastoral Care

  • Provide strategic oversight of student welfare, discipline, attendance, safeguarding, and wellbeing.
  • Ensure comprehensive student support systems are in place, particularly for international students.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, respectful, and student-centred learning environment.
  • Oversee policies and procedures relating to student conduct, complaints, and appeals.
  • Promote holistic student development through academic, personal, and leadership opportunities.

5. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure full compliance with EduTrust, CPE regulations, Ministry of Education requirements, and all relevant statutory obligations.
  • Oversee institutional quality assurance systems, academic governance, and continuous compliance monitoring.
  • Lead preparations for audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure school policies and operational procedures remain current and compliant with regulatory requirements.

6. Financial & Operational Leadership

  • Oversee the school's annual budget and ensure effective allocation of resources.
  • Monitor financial performance and support sustainable business growth while maintaining academic quality.
  • Work closely with Finance and Operations teams to optimise operational efficiency.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of facilities, technology, and institutional resources.
  • Support strategic planning for programme expansion and campus development.

7. Parent, Industry & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, students, education agents, university partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Represent the school at education conferences, promotional events, and public engagements.
  • Lead parent communication strategies and address significant student or parent concerns.
  • Strengthen partnerships that enhance student opportunities and institutional reputation.

8. Business Development & School Growth

  • Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing teams to achieve student recruitment and enrolment targets.
  • Support the development of new academic programmes and strategic partnerships.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance the school's brand, market positioning, and competitive advantage.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, expansion, and long-term institutional growth.

Requirements

  • Degree or above in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience in international schools, private education institutions, or higher education.
  • Proven experience leading academic teams and managing school-wide operations.
  • Strong understanding of O Level, A Level, or international curriculum frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience managing international students and multicultural learning environments.
  • Strong knowledge of EduTrust, CPE regulations, and quality assurance requirements is highly desirable.
  • Excellent strategic planning, leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong financial and operational management capabilities.
  • Ability to inspire teams, drive organisational change, and deliver measurable educational outcomes.
  • Results-oriented with a strong commitment to academic excellence, institutional growth, and student success.
