Application Developer

Position Summary

The Application Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting business applications that enable operational efficiency, digital transformation, and customer experience enhancement. The role works closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, project teams, and technology partners to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality applications aligned to business requirements.

The incumbent will participate throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering and solution design through development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and continuous enhancement. The role requires strong technical competency in modern application development frameworks, APIs, databases, cloud technologies, and Agile delivery methodologies.

Key Accountabilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain enterprise applications and digital solutions.
• Translate business requirements into scalable, secure and maintainable application designs.
• Support application integrations, APIs, databases and enterprise systems.
• Ensure applications meet performance, reliability, security and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with business users, project teams and technical stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Support application troubleshooting, incident resolution and root cause analysis.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of application architecture, coding standards and development practices.
• Ensure solution documentation, technical specifications and operational guides remain current and accurate.

Core Responsibilities

1. Application Design & Development

• Analyse business and functional requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Design, develop and enhance web, mobile or enterprise applications.
• Create reusable, scalable and maintainable application components.
• Develop APIs, microservices and system integrations where required.
• Ensure adherence to software development standards, architecture principles and best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and technical design sessions.

2. System Integration & API Development

• Develop and maintain application integrations with internal and external systems.
• Build and support RESTful APIs and service-oriented integrations.
• Ensure application interfaces are secure, reliable and scalable.
• Support integration testing and troubleshooting activities.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security and architecture teams during implementation.

Development references highlight enterprise software development, REST-based integrations, full-stack development, enterprise application platforms and cloud-native architectures.

3. Database Development & Data Management

• Design and develop database structures, queries, stored procedures and reports.
• Ensure data integrity, accuracy and performance optimisation.
• Support database troubleshooting and performance tuning activities.
• Work closely with data teams on data migration and synchronization requirements.
• Ensure proper backup, recovery and security controls are implemented.

4. Testing & Quality Assurance

• Develop and execute unit testing, system testing and integration testing activities.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and defect resolution processes.
• Ensure applications meet quality, performance and security standards.
• Assist in release testing and deployment validation.
• Promote automated testing and quality assurance best practices.

5. Application Support & Maintenance

• Provide Level 2 / Level 3 application support where required.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Support change requests, enhancements and system upgrades.
• Monitor system performance and recommend improvement opportunities.
• Maintain system documentation and operational procedures.

Application support, system maintenance, production support and troubleshooting responsibilities are reflected across internal development references.

6. DevOps & Cloud Deployment

• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Participate in cloud deployment and cloud-native application initiatives.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams on release automation and environment management.
• Ensure applications are designed with scalability, resilience and observability considerations.
• Support monitoring and incident management activities.

Cloud-native development, DevSecOps, microservices, CI/CD and automated deployment practices are highlighted within internal application modernization initiatives.

7. Documentation & Continuous Improvement

• Prepare technical specifications, design documents and support documentation.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning and solution reviews.
• Recommend technical improvements, development standards and process enhancements.
• Keep abreast of emerging technologies, frameworks and development approaches.
• Contribute to technical knowledge sharing and capability building.

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge

• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant application development experience.
• Experience building enterprise applications, web applications, APIs or mobile solutions.
• Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
• Experience with Agile, Scrum or DevOps delivery practices.
• Experience with modern programming languages such as:

• Experience with frameworks such as:
