Job Purpose

The Operations Manager is responsible for planning,coordinating, and overseeing the daily operations of the CNC precisionengineering facility. This includes ensuring production targets, qualitystandards, delivery schedules, safety requirements, and cost objectives areconsistently achieved while maintaining operational efficiency and customersatisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management

  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities.
  • Allocate manpower, machines, and resources to maximize productivity.
  • Monitor production schedules to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate production priorities with Sales, Engineering, and Procurement.
  • Review production capacity and optimize machine utilization.

2. CNC Manufacturing Operations

  • Oversee CNC Turning, CNC Milling, EDM, grinding, and secondary machining processes.
  • Ensure proper machine setup, tooling, fixtures, and cutting parameters.
  • Monitor machine performance and minimize downtime.
  • Improve machining efficiency through process optimization.
  • Support introduction of new products and manufacturing processes.

3. Quality Management

  • Ensure all products comply with customer specifications and drawings.
  • Work closely with the Quality Department to resolve quality issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
  • Monitor scrap rates, rework, and customer complaints.

4. Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and monitor production schedules based on customer requirements.
  • Coordinate material availability with Procurement.
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and inventory levels.
  • Ensure smooth workflow across all manufacturing processes.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.

5. Team Leadership

  • Supervise Production Supervisors, CNC Programmers, Machinists, and Production Operators.
  • Conduct staff training and competency development.
  • Monitor employee performance and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Plan manpower requirements and overtime where necessary.

6. Customer & Project Coordination

  • Liaise with customers regarding production status and delivery schedules.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical discussions when required.
  • Support engineering changes and new product implementation.
  • Ensure customer requirements are fully understood and communicated to production teams.

7. Cost Control

  • Monitor manufacturing costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Reduce machining cycle times and material waste.
  • Control tooling consumption and maintenance expenses.
  • Review subcontractor performance and production costs.
  • Recommend productivity improvements and automation opportunities.

8. Equipment & Maintenance

  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Coordinate repairs and servicing of CNC machines and production equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and machine availability.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and capital investments.

9. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings and safety briefings.
  • Enforce the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workplace in accordance with 5S principles.

10. Continuous Improvement

  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Improve production processes and workflow efficiency.
  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Drive productivity, quality, and delivery improvements.
  • Encourage innovation and employee involvement in process improvements.

11. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
  • Monitor production KPIs, including:
  • On-Time Delivery (OTD)
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Machine Utilization
  • Productivity
  • Scrap Rate
  • Rework Rate
  • Labour Efficiency
  • Maintain production records and operational documentation.
  • Present operational performance reports to Management.

12. Procurement & Resource Management

  • Oversee the procurement and utilization of highly specific raw materials, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, inserts, and shop floor consumables required for CNC precision manufacturing.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Department to ensure timely sourcing and delivery of materials, tooling, and production supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, tooling, and consumables to prevent production disruptions while minimizing excess stock.
  • Evaluate supplier performance in terms of quality, cost, and delivery, and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Ensure all purchased materials and tooling comply with engineering drawings, material specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Production teams to identify suitable materials and tooling for new product introductions and process improvements.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives through efficient material utilization, tooling optimization, and waste reduction.
  • Maintain proper records of material consumption, tooling life, and inventory usage to support production planning and cost control.

Authority

The Operations Manager is authorized to:

  • Allocate manpower and production resources.
  • Approve daily production schedules.
  • Assign overtime based on operational requirements.
  • Recommend recruitment, promotion, disciplinary actions, and employee development.
  • Stop production if quality or safety standards are compromised.
  • Approve tooling, consumables, and operational purchases within the approved authority limit.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2–10 years of experience in CNC precision engineering or manufacturing operations.
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, GD&T, tooling, production planning, and quality systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
