DCN Senior Electrical, Instrument & Controls Engineer – ETO

Position Summary
The DCN Senior Electrical, Instrument & Controls Engineer – ETO is responsible for the design, development, and technical leadership of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems supporting Engineer-to-Order (ETO) modular data center infrastructure products.
This role serves as the subject matter expert for electrical engineering and electrical code compliance, ensuring all products meet applicable international standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. The engineer will lead the development of electrical architectures, instrumentation specifications, control philosophies, PLC/HMI integration, industrial control panels, and system interfaces while supporting manufacturing, supplier development, testing, commissioning, and customer technical discussions.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, manufacturing partners, quality, project management, and customers, this position ensures safe, reliable, code-compliant, and manufacturable solutions for modular cooling and power infrastructure deployed throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Code Compliance
- Serve as the technical authority for electrical engineering, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable international codes, standards, and customer specifications.
- Interpret and apply electrical standards including:
- NEC (NFPA 70)
- NFPA 79
- UL 508A
- IEC 60204
- IEC 61439
- IEC 60364
- IEC 61010
- CE requirements
- IEEE standards
- Country-specific electrical regulations throughout APAC
- Review customer specifications and identify applicable regulatory requirements for each project.
- Provide technical guidance during design reviews to ensure compliance, safety, reliability, and maintainability.
- Support product certification and regulatory approval activities.
Electrical System Design
- Design industrial electrical systems and control panel architectures.
- Develop:
- Single-line diagrams
- Electrical schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Panel layouts
- Terminal schedules
- Cable schedules
- Specify electrical protection devices and control hardware.
- Design power distribution and grounding systems for modular products.
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing, serviceability, and long-term reliability.
PLC & Automation
- Support PLC programming and HMI development.
- Support the development of industrial communication networks including:
- Modbus TCP/IP
- Modbus RTU
- Ethernet/IP
- Profinet
- BACnet
- OPC UA
- Support integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) and customer control platforms.
- Troubleshoot automation and controls issues during testing and commissioning.
Instrumentation & Controls Design(nice to have)
- Design instrumentation and control systems for modular cooling and power infrastructure.
- Develop control philosophies and functional design specifications.
- Specify instrumentation including:

Product Development
- Participate in Engineer-to-Order (ETO) product development projects.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Project Engineering teams.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard analyses, and DFMEA activities.
- Standardize electrical architectures across product families where appropriate.
- Drive improvements in product reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
Manufacturing & Testing Support
- Support manufacturing during electrical assembly and commissioning.
- Develop electrical inspection procedures and test plans.
- Develop and support:
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT)
- xVT execution
- Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues during production.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for electrical and controls-related issues.
Supplier Development
- Provide technical leadership to third-party manufacturing partners throughout Asia.
- Review supplier electrical documentation and control system designs.
- Ensure suppliers follow SLB electrical engineering standards and quality requirements.
- Train suppliers on electrical assembly practices, wiring standards, testing procedures, and code compliance.
- Support supplier capability development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Customer Support
- Participate in customer technical meetings.
- Review customer specifications and technical documentation.
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup activities when required.
- Provide technical support during project execution and issue resolution.
Continuous Improvement
- Develop standardized engineering practices for electrical and controls systems.
- Improve testing efficiency and commissioning processes.
- Drive product cost reduction while maintaining quality and reliability.
- Support engineering change management throughout the product lifecycle.
- Promote lessons learned and best practices across global engineering teams.
Qualifications required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
- Strong expertise in electrical engineering principles and industrial power distribution.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying international electrical codes and standards.
- Experience designing industrial control panels and electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of PLC-based automation systems.
- Experience with industrial instrumentation and sensor technologies.
- Ability to read and develop:
- Electrical schematics
- P&IDs
- Control drawings
- Wiring diagrams
- Experience supporting manufacturing, commissioning, or industrial equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Preferred
- Experience with modular data center infrastructure.
