DCN Senior Mechanical Engineer – ETO

Location: Singapore

Department: Data Center Network (DCN) Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Travel: Up to 40% throughout Asia

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and capable Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our DCN Engineering team in Singapore.

This role is focused on the design and delivery of large-scale modular engineered systems that are manufactured, tested, and deployed across a variety of project locations throughout Asia. The successful candidate will support projects from concept development through detailed design, fabrication, testing, commissioning, and field deployment.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and want to apply and further develop expertise across mechanical system design, equipment packaging, piping systems, structural assemblies, and overall system integration.

We are looking for candidates with strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, fabricators, customers, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Develop mechanical designs for modular equipment systems from concept through detailed engineering, fabrication, testing, and deployment.
  • Create and optimize equipment layouts, piping arrangements, structural assemblies, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions and system performance.
  • Develop technical specifications, engineering reports, bills of materials (BOMs), and design documentation.
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, manufacturability, maintainability, and operational requirements.
  • Support product improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost optimization, standardization, and scalability.

CAD & Drawing Development

  • Utilize 3D CAD tools to develop detailed models, assemblies, and engineering layouts.
  • Work closely with designers to produce fabrication, assembly, installation, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to design resources.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings to ensure compliance with design intent, engineering standards, and project requirements.
  • Manage design revisions and maintain accurate engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

System Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Project Engineering teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Support the integration of mechanical equipment, piping systems, instrumentation, electrical components, and control systems.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary engineering meetings to resolve technical and execution challenges.
  • Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables, manufacturing requirements, project schedules, and customer expectations.

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

  • Act as a technical interface between the engineering team and suppliers, fabrication vendors, and external contractors.
  • Review vendor quotations, technical proposals, datasheets, equipment specifications, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Support supplier selection and procurement activities through technical evaluations and recommendations.
  • Monitor vendor deliverables and drive timely closure of technical actions.
  • Participate in supplier audits, factory visits, inspections, and technical review meetings as required.

Design Reviews & Technical Governance

  • Participate in and lead engineering design reviews involving internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Evaluate designs for technical compliance, manufacturability, constructability, maintainability, and operational performance.
  • Identify technical risks and support the development of mitigation plans.
  • Review engineering deliverables from vendors, consultants, and contractors to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and lessons-learned activities across the organization.

Customer Support & Technical Interface

  • Support customer meetings, technical discussions, and design review sessions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in interpreting customer requirements and translating them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Respond to customer technical queries and provide engineering support during project execution.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and operational troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes and customer satisfaction.

Manufacturing & Project Execution Support

  • Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Respond to technical queries from manufacturing teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of design-related issues encountered during manufacturing or deployment.
  • Travel to supplier facilities and project sites as required to support project execution.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to improve product designs, engineering processes, cost efficiency, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Support standardization and modularization initiatives to improve project execution and product consistency.
  • Drive lessons learned activities and incorporate improvements into future designs and engineering practices.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering tools, templates, design guides, and best practices.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence within the engineering team.

Continuous Learning & Development

  • Develop expertise across multiple mechanical engineering disciplines, including system design, equipment packaging, structural assemblies, piping systems, and modular product development.
  • Stay current with engineering tools, technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, industrial systems, manufacturing, utilities, HVAC, water treatment, modular equipment, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects from concept through fabrication, testing, and commissioning is advantageous.
  • Experience coordinating with designers, suppliers, fabrication vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams is preferred.
  • Experience with modular systems, packaged equipment, or engineered-to-order (ETO) products is beneficial.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as:
  1. SolidWorks
  2. Autodesk Inventor
  3. Creo
  4. AutoCAD
  • Experience developing and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with equipment layouts, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and piping arrangements.
  • Exposure to structural design, piping design, finite element analysis (FEA), or engineering analysis tools is advantageous.
  • Understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly processes
