Job Description - Electrical Engineer (Port Equipment & Crane Systems)

Job Summary

Prepare and review mechanical and electrical designs for port equipment and crane systems, manage engineering projects, provide technical support, and contribute to innovation and electrification initiatives in a dynamic port equipment environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review mechanical and electrical designs for port equipment and crane systems including RTG, RMG, and Quay Cranes to ensure operational effectiveness
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, layouts, schematics, and technical documentation using AutoCAD and related engineering software to support project execution
  • Perform engineering calculations, structural analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA) using Finite Element software and other simulation tools to validate design integrity
  • Support equipment upgrades, retrofits, automation, and electrification projects to enhance system performance and sustainability
  • Conduct equipment troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implement technical improvements to optimize reliability and safety
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications to maintain quality and compliance
  • Coordinate and manage engineering projects from concept development through execution and commissioning to meet project goals
  • Monitor project schedules, technical deliverables, budgets, and resource planning to ensure timely and cost-effective completion
  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, classification bodies, and internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution and communication
  • Conduct site inspections, technical evaluations, and commissioning activities to verify project compliance and functionality
  • Prepare project reports, technical proposals, method statements, and engineering documentation to support project transparency and decision-making
  • Engage directly with customers to understand operational requirements and deliver tailored technical solutions
  • Participate in technical meetings, site discussions, and project reviews with customers and stakeholders to align project objectives
  • Provide technical support for equipment maintenance, modernization, and operational optimization to enhance equipment lifecycle
  • Support business development activities by contributing engineering expertise for proposals and tenders to secure new projects
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Battery EV, hybrid, and energy-efficient solutions for port equipment to drive sustainability
  • Participate in sustainability and green port initiatives related to electrification and energy management to promote environmental responsibility
  • Evaluate emerging technologies related to automation, battery systems, and smart port equipment to maintain technological leadership

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience in heavy equipment, crane systems, industrial machinery, or port equipment
  • Experience with RTG, RMG, Quay Cranes, container handling equipment, or similar heavy lifting systems preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and engineering design software
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and engineering calculations
  • Knowledge of Battery EV systems, lithium battery technologies, hybrid systems, or electrification projects is advantageous
  • Familiarity with PLC systems, drives, motors, and industrial electrical systems is an added advantage
  • Strong project management and coordination skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with customers and stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel for site work, inspections, and project support when required
