Job Description - Hull & Outfitting Site Engineer

Job Purpose

The Hull & Outfitting Site Engineer is responsible for overseeing hull construction and outfitting activities for new-build vessels, ensuring that all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, classification society requirements, quality standards, and project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily hull construction and outfitting activities, including aluminum fabrication, welding, forming, assembly, and installation works.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with vessel specifications, approved drawings, classification society requirements, welding procedures, and quality standards (e.g. WPS, DNV).
  • Conduct inspections on hull structures, framing, shell plating, foundations, and outfitting installations to verify dimensional accuracy, alignment, and fit-up.
  • Coordinate with production, quality assurance, engineering, procurement, and subcontractor teams to ensure smooth execution of works.
  • Support the installation of outfitting components, including equipment foundations, deck machinery, doors, hatches, access structures, and associated fittings.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues arising during construction and act as a liaison between the design team and production teams.
  • Monitor work progress and prepare daily reports, inspection records, work completion records, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) where required.
  • Verify material traceability and support receiving inspections for construction materials and outfitting equipment.
  • Participate in client, owner, classification society, and internal inspections as required.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, project quality requirements, and company policies.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Shipbuilding, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Experience in shipbuilding, vessel construction, offshore, marine, or heavy engineering projects.
  • Experience in hull construction, outfitting, structural fabrication, or production engineering within a shipyard environment.
  • Experience with aluminum vessel construction, high-speed craft, patrol vessels, naval vessels, or commercial shipbuilding projects will be an advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of shipbuilding processes, hull fabrication, outfitting works, and marine construction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with welding standards, inspection requirements, and quality control practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, 3D models, and production documentation.
  • Understanding of classification society requirements and shipbuilding quality standards.
  • Proficient in preparing technical reports, inspection records, and construction progress updates.
