HVDC Converter System Leader

Role Overview

The HVDC Converter System Leader oversees the end-to-end management of mechanical and electrical components within the HVDC converter station. This role is responsible for ensuring the seamless integration, quality, and timely execution of construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases. You will serve as the primary site lead for internal supervisors and external subcontractors, ensuring strict adherence to EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) protocols, project procedures, and contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Site Operations & Project Management

• Planning & Scheduling: Participate in daily Plan of the Day (POD) meetings. Review and validate subcontractor schedules, ensuring logical sequencing, appropriate construction methods, and alignment with overall project milestones.
• Progress Monitoring: Monitor daily field progress and coordinate with the Site Planner to ensure performance meets schedule requirements.
• Reporting: Prepare comprehensive Daily Progress Reports (DPRs) highlighting key achievements, constraints, and resource status.
• Interface Management: Coordinate activities between multiple subcontractors to prevent delays and resolve technical or logistical conflicts.

2. Safety, Quality, and Compliance

• EHS Leadership: Actively implement and enforce the project EHS plan, ensuring a culture of safety for all manual and non-manual personnel.
• Quality Assurance: Establish and monitor compliance with project procedures and technical requirements to ensure all work meets engineering specifications.
• Site Standards: Oversee site housekeeping, cleanliness, and security to maintain a professional and safe working environment.

3. Resource & Technical Coordination

• Supervision: Provide daily work priorities for HVDC Valve Supervisors/Inspectors and DC Control System Electrical Supervisors/Inspectors.
• Resource Management: Ensure subcontractors have the necessary skilled craft resources, tools, and technical expertise to maintain productivity.
• Commissioning Support: Collaborate with commissioning engineers and oversee the resolution of punch-list items to ensure a smooth turnover to the client.

4. Stakeholder Relations

• Maintain proactive relationships with the client, project management, and internal departments, including Field Engineering, Security, and Subcontracts.

Accountabilities

• Functional/Operational: Reports directly to the M&E Manager.
• Safety Accountability: Directly accountable for the safety of all site personnel, including staff and subcontractors.
• Execution Accountability: Responsible for ensuring the availability of adequate supervision, resources, tooling, and materials to meet project milestones.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Secondary education with relevant vocational or technical qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
• Good understanding of general electrical engineering principles.
• Proven experience in HVDC converter station construction is essential.
• Familiar with offshore HVDC projects.
• Strong understanding of HVDC valve cooling systems, control systems, and associated electrical/mechanical infrastructure is essential.
• Expertise in electrical & control systems commissioning is essential.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing large subcontractor teams and complex site interfaces.
• Relevant EHS certifications and familiarity with international construction quality standards.
