Manager, Laser Development

Position Overview

The Manager, Laser Development will lead the development and industrialization of advanced semiconductor laser technologies, including FP lasers, DFB lasers, EMLs, and external cavity laser modules. This role is responsible for driving technology innovation, leading engineering teams, and ensuring successful integration of laser solutions into the company's products and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and qualification of semiconductor laser devices and modules, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost targets.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and scientists, fostering technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Establish and oversee laser characterization and test capabilities, including optical, electrical, thermal, and high-frequency measurements, to support product development and validation.
• Drive experimental design, data analysis, and performance optimization activities to improve device performance and strengthen correlation between simulation and measurement results.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, packaging, process development, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, to support new product introduction and production readiness.
• Serve as the primary technical authority for laser development, engaging with customers, suppliers, foundries, and strategic partners to support technology and product initiatives.
• Define and execute the laser technology roadmap, overseeing the transition of laser components from concept and prototyping through qualification and high-volume manufacturing.

Requirements

• Degree or postgraduate qualification (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of industry experience in semiconductor lasers, photonic devices, optoelectronics, or related technologies, with demonstrated technical leadership experience.
• Strong expertise in semiconductor laser design, characterization, simulation, and analysis of optical, electrical, thermal, and high-frequency device performance.
• Proven track record in leading new product development programs and transferring technologies into manufacturing environments.
• Excellent leadership, project management, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across global and cross-functional teams.
