Role Summary

The NPI Lead supports the introduction of new products into manufacturing at turnkey supplier facilities. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, this role acts as the focal point for technical alignment, process development, and capability building within supplier operations.

The NPI Lead works closely with internal engineering teams and external manufacturing partners to ensure products are built efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards. A key part of the role is developing supplier competency through training, process improvement, and implementation of proven manufacturing practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supplier Technical Alignment

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical alignment with turnkey manufacturing partners
  • Ensure clear understanding of product requirements, drawings, and specifications
  • Support resolution of technical questions during builds and early production

2. NPI Build Support

  • Support first builds and early production runs at supplier sites
  • Work with suppliers to ensure readiness in:
  1. Work instructions and build sequence
  2. Material flow and staging
  3. Tooling and equipment
  • Help identify and resolve issues during initial builds+

3. Process Development & Flow

  • Define and improve manufacturing process flow for new products
  • Ensure logical sequencing of assembly steps to support efficiency and quality
  • Identify bottlenecks and work with suppliers to improve throughput

4. Training & Capability Building

  • Develop and deliver training to supplier teams on:
  1. Assembly methods
  2. Quality expectations
  3. Standard work
  • Build long-term capability within supplier organizations to support repeatable production

5. Continuous Improvement (CI)

  • Apply continuous improvement principles to improve manufacturing performance
  • Introduce best practices from other data center manufacturing operations
  • Support implementation of:
  1. Standard work
  2. 5S and workplace organization
  3. Visual management

6. Tooling & Infrastructure Improvements

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through:
  1. Tools and equipment
  2. Jigs and fixtures
  3. Layout and infrastructure
  • Work with suppliers to implement practical, cost-effective solutions

7. Quality & Execution Support

  • Reinforce quality expectations during NPI phase
  • Support development of inspection points and quality checks
  • Ensure issues are identified early and addressed quickly

Success Metrics

  • Smooth execution of first builds at supplier sites
  • Reduction in build issues across early production runs
  • Improved supplier efficiency (cycle time, flow, labor utilization)
  • Increased supplier capability and independence over time
  • Adoption of standard work and CI practices
  • Product quality meets expectations during ramp-up

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred)

Experience

  • 5–15 years in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, or NPI
  • Experience working with external suppliers or contract manufacturers
  • Experience with electromechanical assemblies or industrial systems preferred
