Job Description - Performance Engineer (Plant Performance)

Job Description

The Performance Engineer (Plant Performance) supports Asset Management and Plant Operations by monitoring, analysing, and optimising plant and equipment performance. The role focuses on improving efficiency, heat rate, output, availability, and resource utilisation through data analysis and performance improvement initiatives, working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to sustain plant performance and achieve business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse plant and equipment performance indicators, including efficiency, heat rate, output, availability, and losses, to identify performance gaps and degradation trends.
  • Conduct thermodynamic and heat‑rate calculations to identify efficiency gaps, perform performance analysis and testing, and benchmark and validate equipment and systems against design specifications and expected operating conditions.
  • Track and analyse plant performance metrics for gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, generators, and Balanced of Plants systems.
  • Identify root causes of performance shortfalls and recommend corrective actions, optimisation measures, and process improvements.
  • Support and implement performance improvement initiatives, including operational adjustments, control parameter optimisation, and process enhancements.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to align performance insights with daily operations, maintenance strategies, and equipment improvement plans.
  • Develop performance reports and dashboards, support evaluation of plant modifications or upgrades, and ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years in power plant performance engineering, preferably in combined cycle plants.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable performance insights.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Self‑driven, proactive, and results‑oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to safe work practices and emergency preparedness.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat balance, and plant control systems.
  • Preferred either OEM training or experienced on Siemens gas turbines.
  • Preferred with Energy Efficiency or Performance Engineering certifications.
